I hunted the Navajo Rez for a couple of days last weekend but had to leave my best dog at the house because she was in heat. The day I returned, my second best female started spotting. I am in the middle of lion season and now find myself so short of dogs that I can't go hunting. There was no snow in the Rez and the driest that the natives had ever seen it. Ironically it snow just a little yesterday and lion hunters from all over the area showed up according to my Game Warden Buddy out there. Seems that my old saying is still true..."When it snows, everybody has a lion dog". Adios, Gary

Definitely an inconvenience at times for sure. I couldn't tell you the first thing about lion tracking with dog but it sure sounds like a lot of fun!

No matter what type of hunting you do, it happens. Sounds like you just need a couple more dogs. At least that is my go to answer, when I've had a dog down in the past. My husband doesn't always agree, but it doesn't stop me from trying.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Yep, it happens. I talked to a couple trainers running dogs at the master nationals Retriver Championship here at Big Woods outside of Palestine. One guy drove from North Carolina with 4 dogs that qualified. 2 went into heat on the trip and couldn’t compete. Sucked to have that much money and time invested and 1/2 of your dogs couldn’t run.

I will breed these females as folks and friends all over the country want pups out of these dogs so I will not spay them. I just had a litter nearly 6 months ago and did not near meet the demand for these hounds, I really need to breed one of them now but if I do, they will not be available for lion season. Adios, Gary

Gary, caught your show on AI few weeks back, did I hear right that your vet has semen from other breeds. By they I run britanys, and where is your vet located.
Thanks Carl

Had my female fixed, don't want puppies
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

He is located in Castroville, TX. I am not sure what breeds that he has on hand. He does not own most of the semen so you would need to contact the owner for permission of course. I am sure that he would know what he has stored and could get you in touch with the owner. This gentleman is very good at what he does. Adios, Gary

Another trouble with females. Once they decide they dont like another female, its hard to get them to change their mind. I've had some generally sweet little girls that for some reason or another, take a dislike to a neighbor, and brother, you better keep those two apart! Ive never had a male do that. I have had several females.
Just like Mama, they're not real big on forgiving or forgetting.
