I jumped on the 300 BO in the AR platform wagon this season and I've really enjoyed this caliber. Deer and hogs go down within 20 or 30 yards with my hand loaded 125 gr SST. I like the quick follow shots, that's actually why I went to the 300. I use to hunt with a bolt gun in 308 but I could only put down one hog and maybe get a shot at another.
I've loaded some 110 V-max in .2 increments to test. I'll do that when the weather here clears.

I like my 300 had it custom built by Purple Hays guns in Lenard . But I like the Grendel better. But my favorite is .243 it is smoking fast .Great on hogs. You will like the 300 it's great at 150 yds. I like to zero at 125 yards.

I'd rather have an AR10 in .243 or .308

I build a 300bo and a 6.8 spc ll both shoot great ouy to 200-250 yds with no problems. I use hornady stt 120 gr for the 6.8 and full boar110gr for 300 i have them both zero out at 200 yds. Hogs go down with no problem, wating on the buck for this season to show up. How hard is it to build one? What would it run to build one? How much do you want to spend? And what do you consider a "Build" some people buy a complete lower and a complete upper and pin the two together and call it a build. Others have all the tools and start from a pile of parts and springs and put it all together. Either way building an AR15 is about like playing with Legos or an Erector Set. A few simple tools like roll pin punches, hammer a set of vice grips will get you started. For a complete build you need an action block and barrel wrench as well. You can buy .300 BLK uppers for $300-$1,500. Complete .300 BLK rifles start around $450 and go up from there. There are some companies selling .300 BLK kits for as low as $300 that all you need is a stripped AR15 lower receiver and you assemble all the parts with a few simple hand tools. To me it's kinda like a wish I would have waiting to happen .why not .308 or 6.5 Grendel look at ballistic charts . Cause I already have those rifles already If you have a 6.5 Grendel AR15 the easiest way is to buy a complete .300 BLK upper, remove the two takedown pins and swap uppers.

When the 300 came out, I wanted nothing to do with the round simply because it was the flavor of the month and everybody had to have it. I strongly resisted until I found a youth 300 savage bolt gun for a price I couldnt pass up for my son. I have to say, we love it. Hits the target hard, but not so hard on the kiddos shoulder. Suppressed it is nice and quiet. Wish I hadn't have been such a snob about it when it first became popular.

I have a 300 bo AR topped with Photon xt 4.6. Nice little combo for pig hunting, have had no issues killing things with it.

A .300 was the 2nd AR that I built. The first was a 20" .223 built from used parts and a poly lower at the peak of the AR madness... http://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4148583/1Daughter kept it for about a year, swapped out the adjustable stock, and then traded it to a friend of ours for a 16" version. Then she decided we needed a .300. So back to work on it, with prices still way expensive I overpaid for the barrel, but the upper and barrel are Daniel Defense, got them together for just under $400. The lower is Stag Arms, she wanted the one with the Deer on it. I drove to San Antonio to pick up two of those from a member here. I think they were 150 each. I built the lpk from either Windham or White Wing website for around $30, I already had a trigger that was part of junk I acquired from the other build. BCG was bought from PSA with the CH, I bought a $6 Chinese import extended lever from ebay to put on it. Bushnell Dusk & Dawn 3-9x50 tops it Nothing too fancy, If I remember right, I was in to this one for around 750 when it was all said and done. That being said, I load 125gr Nosler BT's in LC brass. These are devastating on hogs. Due to the way our land is, we don't get a lot of chances for shots over 200 yards, and most are under 150. So far, no complaints. I only recall one hog running very far after the shot, he ran into a dry creekbed about 20-30 yards behind him and laid down. Most take a step or two and lay down.

I dont get what the fascination is with the .300 blackout when there are so many other much better rounds available. Not so much a fascination. But in an AR15, the 300 hits 20 to 25% harder than a 556. Works well for me in areas with lots of cover where shots are commonly 10 to 100 yards. True when you compare 556 and light bullets, but when you compare it to a 556 shooting 70-75 grain bullets 300 black out pratically same energy.

I like mine, but prefer my 6.8 better. My 300 is a 8.5" SBR topped with a Photon and it's been lethal on hogs. I prefer the Barnes Tac Tx 110 grain pills.
