A .300 was the 2nd AR that I built. The first was a 20" .223 built from used parts and a poly lower at the peak of the AR madness...
http://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4148583/1Daughter kept it for about a year, swapped out the adjustable stock, and then traded it to a friend of ours for a 16" version.
Then she decided we needed a .300. So back to work on it, with prices still way expensive
I overpaid for the barrel, but the upper and barrel are Daniel Defense, got them together for just under $400.
The lower is Stag Arms, she wanted the one with the Deer on it. I drove to San Antonio to pick up two of those from a member here. I think they were 150 each.
I built the lpk from either Windham or White Wing website for around $30, I already had a trigger that was part of junk I acquired from the other build.
BCG was bought from PSA with the CH, I bought a $6 Chinese import extended lever from ebay to put on it.
Bushnell Dusk & Dawn 3-9x50 tops it
Nothing too fancy, If I remember right, I was in to this one for around 750 when it was all said and done.
That being said, I load 125gr Nosler BT's in LC brass. These are devastating on hogs. Due to the way our land is, we don't get a lot of chances for shots over 200 yards, and most are under 150. So far, no complaints.
I only recall one hog running very far after the shot, he ran into a dry creekbed about 20-30 yards behind him and laid down. Most take a step or two and lay down.
