Was going to work up a load for Hunting with a 7 RM with 175 ELD-M. Data shows max varies over 7 grains which is not that unusual but not normally that great of variance. I shot one round with 68.5 gr and speed was 2953 which seems fast for supposedly 3 gr under max?? Looked at QuickLoad and that is moderate load.... Just wondering where to even start a ladder

Sounds interesting, keep us posted on how it goes.
Velocity is suppose to be an indicator of pressure, do your sources of load date agree on speed just differ on the quantity of powder to get there?

The load I tried was 3gr under max in one Manual but was running 100 fps faster than the average speed of most manuals. I think it is because it’s a custom chamber and the throat is not as long as some factory rifles but just find it a little unusual that QuickLoad has the bullet and I modified the seating depth and it shows a 100 fps slower as well. Pulled down all the rounds will start lower and give it another go??

My 7 Rem Mag "0" free-bore 180 gr VLD-Hunting 69.2 gr of H-Retumbo CCI 250 Rem brass 26" 1:8.5 MV 2950 fps. I was up to 71.2 gr of Retumbo = 3030 fps MV, but it started showing significant pressure, late in the game. A shot-in barrel is all I can figure. Bottom line, STAND ON THE THROTTLE!

Watch for pressure signs but I agree with JG. Hammer down.

My manuals show around 2850 fps max as well. Like yours they list a broad range of powder using H-1000 to get there. Depending barrel length, you are at or slightly over max. My current 7 RM seems to track the data in the Nosler Manual pretty close. It lists 65.5 as a max charge of H-1000 pushing a 175 at 2850 out of a 24" barrel. So it would seem you are tracking pretty close to their data as well.

^^That's very conservative, and their max would be where I would start. Berger will do the same thing to you.
Just like anything else, ease up until it shoots well. You might not even find pressure. I expect a 7 Rem Mag to shoot at, or near compression.

Found the issue..... PPU brass. Way lower internal volume was running pressures and speeds up. Especially with 175 gr bullet taking powder space with short throat it was a double whammy. Why they say always work up as you never know.

Yeah, published data has gotten more conservative than when I started loading in the '70's. I have wondered on numerous occasions if it is due to more sophisticated pressure reading equipment or lawyer proofing. The 7 mag is a caliber I am more cautious with due to it being more prone to pressure spikes than some.

What is the twist on your 7mm reg?
Also have you shot the 175 eld-x in the 28 Nosler? Is so what speeds and how did it shoot?

That particular 7mm is a 1/9 twist
The 28 Nolser has a 1/8 and no have not tried the 175 ELD-x but have tried the 180ELD-M. Not sure how well they really shoot because twice on the third shot of a string the bullet never made it to the target..... so I quit messing with them.

Thanks. The 180s shoot at 3090 FPS for me in a 8t 28 Nosler. I saw where someone reported the same thing on another site with the 180s at higher speeds as well

Yes really had it built for a local steel match 1000 yards + type shooting. I guess if I wanted to tote it and wear double hearing protection it would certainly do the job on game. I agree I wouldn’t use the SMK and would switch back to the Berger and it’s nice as both bullets shoot same POI at 100 yards

I expect the SMK will run 2000 yards no problem. Good to know both bullets hold the same zero.

I guess so ..... but it was running around 3250fps from a 28.5 inch barrel. Dang, that is smoking fast. I was pushing 3140 fps with a 160 Accubond and 72.8 grains Retumbo out of a 26 tube in 7Mag and thought it was smoking fast. EDITED: Oops, thought it was a 7 Mag, but realized its a 28 Nosler.
