BOBO, a lot of CO problem IMO has been the influx of "escapees" from Cali and the W coast, once they settle in, they revert to what they disliked in their home state. Plus you get a lot of reverb from the resort town homeowners that live there 1-2 weeks a year but have deep pockets. Same slow process Austin has seen in a round about way.

I'm building my house within hollering distance of Oklahoma. Wouldn't shock me if I ended up retiring there.

Same slow process Austin has seen in a round about way. And the Austin set is changing the Hill Country, so watch out. They've had a major impact on the Fredericksburg area. 'Part of the reason we're selling our places there. Certain elitists world-wide want to legislate Utopia, here on Earth; make the lion lie down with the lamb on their terms, at their will. As stated above, if you want to hunt Canada, you better do it quick. I'm getting up there as quick as I can.

I'm kinda in the let them rot crowd. Canada is a socialist mess. We need to worry about Texas. What's going on in Austin is enough problems for us to worry about. We would be hacked off if Canadians were messing in our back yard.

In Ontario the antis and PETA types succeeded in getting the spring black bear hunt cancelled in 1999. Roll the clock forward 15 years and there was a record number of nuisance bears and attacks. Guess what - in 2014 they brought it back in a handful of units as a "pilot project" for residents only. The following year it was brought back completely in all units for residents and non-residents alike. The ban is unfortunate but if problems with nuisance bears start to add up it will be back.

Concur, we also need to realize that our peers can pick holes in our methods as easily as we can theirs, don’t discount that general public can too. Utilization and consumption are a lot harder to poke holes in.

I think with the huge cultural change in the last say 100 years, it has now become about "presentation", how hunters and the industry present themselves. Just take a look at how a federal right (2nd amendment) has to be fought for, largely imo because of "presentation". The scary part Is all involved are unique, some have an attitude of "F'em, I'll throw a bloody deer over the hood for all to see, as I stop by the kids school to pick them up". Sure it's "legal", but do acts like that present our culture as reflected today?
Hard to use the old, " I hunt to feed my family" in a good debate, when you spend enough each year to buy 3-4 cows that we all know come from the deli pre wrapped.

I agree if they troll their video they are asking for opinions and likes. I will give mine and not defend their behavior. But if what they are doing is legal I’m gonna be very careful to stay away from the slippery slope of asking for more laws and regulations.

The younger generation relies on social media for news and information. Their attention span is about half of what the over 40 group is. They don't read the full articles, only the tidbits and sound-bites. This is one reason 'public outcry' gets started on various topics these days and they want change immediately. Yes, Texas needs to watch this, as more and more CA folks move here due to our great pro-business environment, there will be more left leaning people trying to influence our laws. IMO, we need to be vocal and supportive of the TP&W group. They are in charge of the reg's and each time a change is to be made, they ask for public input. I'm not saying they get it right 100%, but they try, look at result\feedback and make adjustments. As with most Government issues, the vocal minority will win over the silent majority...get out and be heard\participate when you can.

Hard to use the old, " I hunt to feed my family" in a good debate, when you spend enough each year to buy 3-4 cows that we all know come from the deli pre wrapped. Feed is unquie but open ended. You going to say that an Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado Etc resident can’t feed his family economically via cow elk tags? Idaho resident elk tag is $30.75, youth is $16.50 Now add in the animal quality, health and responsibility factor. Prefect example take some of the hippie’s on THF that are anti GMO and anti grain fed and medicated beef.... they want happy grass fed, hormone free beef. We have Organic Grocery stores(I’m still at a loss of words about them but non the less they fit the hunting narrative.) (Disclaimer don’t mean hippie in a negative way, just pointing out their disdain for status quo) General public wants to see utilization/consumption confirmed not heads. Joe Rogan has become a random hunting advocate, because of the way the non-hunting public sees his why’s. His social media perception is him carrying a skinned out moose leg, cooking venison on the grill, comparing backstrap size of different animals, describing trials and tribulations, not just a picture of a head. Whole beef- 600-700lbs@ $3.50lb =$2100-2300... plus $390-495 for processing costs 150lbs of beef is more expensive then 150lb elk venison’s, especially on depredation tag/hunts

If you don't like the law, work with lawmakers to change it. The whole point of social media is to share opinions. If someone doesn’t want to hear opinions they probably shouldn’t be sharing and/or starting threads giving their opinions on stuff. Or making videos and selling them. Or getting on TV. I’ll be _____ if I just let the clowns have control of 100% of the narrative. Laws change because attitudes change, not because quiet little mice go scurrying to their legislators.

I have noticed the trend towards getting a new acceptance of hunting has been the "eat what we kill and kill what we eat" movement. which is totally fine by me. You get a whole new crop of hunters with a totally different mindset who have never been exposed to hunting until their adulthood. its big in the western states where there is a lot of public ground and cheap tags for residents and can actually make financial sense to live off wild game rather than farmed animals. I enjoy shows like "meat eater" and listen to steve rinellas podcast, which i do enjoy. My concern though is that large scale conservation efforts are not funded by sustenance hunting but thru trophy hunting. I like to eat wild game as much as the next person. I am not gonna sit here and lie and say that a deer or elk steak is as good as a well marbled prime rib or rib eye but game meat is ok. we buy very little store bought beef because we kill so much food, but that is not why i am out hunting....its for the thrill of the chase and the trophy just as much as the meat. I think that we as hunters have to be honest with ourselves and come to grips with this or we are going to tear our own house down placating to the general public I am starting to get a tad bitter/cynical about the "new movement" way they are portraying it. Listened to a Cameron Hayes tape about earlier about how he stayes in shape to be a top predator and because is serious business taking a life of the animal and because there is a life at stake he needs to be in top shape or its not right to the animals, etc. The only life at stake is your own. if you kill a deer or elk you kill a deer or elk. i know guys in semi-decent shape who kill year after year you he can stay in shape because he has the time and gets sponsored to do so. This "holier than thou one with nature, life is sacred" shtick is getting old, its not how things really are. Conservation is vital but it came about originally and continues to push forward because people want animals to shoot at, not necessarily to eat.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Changing the word "trophy" and substituting "selective harvest" (while pointing out the benefits to the overall populations of taking older age-class male animals) would go a long way towards changing the narrative - and attitudes.

May convert a hippie metrosexual or two. IMO the $$$ for conservation that benefits all argument is much more compelling to the rank and file non-hunter.
