I got a new shotgun and was looking for a turkey choke for it. I know all turkey chokes are tight but I have found a few options that I'm not sure about.

The Patternmaster Anaconda has some kind of "gas over constriction technology". I think it spins the wad and lets gas surround it to constrict it. Sounds gimmicky but I don't know.

The regular Pattermaster Code Black turkey choke uses normal constriction but still has the brake to slow the wad. Anyone know if it's any good? I have a Patternmaster duck choke that works well but it doesn't have any constriction. I don't know why they use constriction on the turkey choke but not the others.

The Indian Creek turkey choke is another one I'm interested in. It sounds like it's similar to the Code Black.


Anyone have any feedback on these? Any other recommendations?

I have heard good things about the Primos Jellyhead chokes.

I've not tried any of those chokes, but what I've found over the years is that if I use a full or full+ choke, and take the time and endure the expense of patterning several different loads, I'm deadly on turkey-lurkey. Pattern your various loads and spend some trigger time shooting at paper plates at the reasonable ranges, off-hand, you're expecting, and you'll find that you really don't need any special chokes.

I've never been a die-hard turkey hunter. I grew up opportunistically shooting turkeys while I was quail hunting. I know you can kill them with anything under the right circumstances. I live in an area with good turkey hunting now, so I'm trying to get into it. I want to set my up gun to kill turkeys from 65 yards out, I even got a decoy and some calls.

If you want to kill turkeys to 65 yds., then your missing the fun of turkey hunting. The objective for a turkey hunter is to call them in close.

Way too many wounded birds run off injured at that distance no matter what shotgun you shoot, or how its set-up. Shell and choke manufacturers really do a disservice to these fine bird bragging about these extended ranges.

65 yds., you're not turkey hunting anymore, you're turkey shooting.

I shoot a 20ga 870 primarily for turkeys. I've had my best patterns with the HS Strut Extra Full-- it does not have any 'wad stopper' features that you will see with a patternmaster. Keep in mind that if you use Federal Turkey (flight stopper wad) loads or the Winchester Longbeard XR you don't want to use a Patternmaster.

I recommend getting a base model x-full choke and then try a few loads. The Longbeard XR is phenomenal as is the Federal 'Heavyweight'.

I killed my first turkey this year with an Improved-Modified.... because I couldn't find my 12ga turkey choke- He was just as dead as any other choke.

If you want a $50-75 'specialty' choke I would look at Jebs.

I use a Primos Tight Wad for my Supernova, it does just fine with the Longbeard XR.

I hope you want 65 yards and in not out. The fun of turkey is calling them in close and shoot them in the face or is to me. My longest range turkey shotgun is a Benelli SBE with a Primos jelly head and truglo sights, with Remington 3.5 inch #6 heavy shot any turkey within 60 yards is dead.

If you are wanting to shoot past 65 yards on turkey shotgun, you need to talk to Barneywho on here about TSS shot. Google it amazing stuff for sure.

Sorry to say, but there are no shortcuts when trying to find the "best pattern". EVERY shotgun/choke/shell combination is different.

The only way to fine-tune your turkey shotgun is to spend a lot of time at the range, with as many chokes and brands of shells that you can get your hands on.
