I know this is a loaded question but I’ll ask anyway. I want a new small caliber rifle to drop the yotes around our place. Should I go with the .22 mag, the .17 HMR or another option. Don’t have a lot of knowledge on small caliber rifles. Mainly going to be used to hunt yotes and Target shoot. 150 yard shots will be on the long end at our place.

The 17 WSM is good coyote medicine for sure. Don't forget to get a good cleaning rod and bore guide for it. Wipe out / Patch out is your friend.
One shot is all it should take.

223 or 204. I went with the 223. My BinL went with the 204. Lots of ammo choices with the 223, and many bullet and powder options. The 40 gr Nosler BT is an amazing coyote killer, and you can push it up to around 3800 fps or load it lighter. I chose the bullet I use because I wanted a bullet unlikely to ricochet.

If you like looking for coyotes after you shoot them then any of the 17 rimfire’s are your Huckleberry. Take 603’s advice and get the 223 almost as cheap to shoot and will anchor coyotes with authority with good bullets. IMO.

Max 150 yard shots?
Don't want the noise of a .223 or .22-250?
Want better killing power than a .17 HMR?
Sounds like the .22 Hornet is what you are looking for. Something like a Savage Model 25 Walking Varminter.

.223 or .22-250
There's a Tikka Varmint .223 1:8 twist in the Trading Post. I don't need it, but I want it. Buy it, so it'll go away!

Have a boneyard full of yotes that didn't need to be looked for, just gotta hit them where you're supposed to. :up The HMR & WSM are both very capable, if you can shoot.

I'd go with a 223, 22-250, or really any of the 22 centerfire. I've shot them with a 17hmr, and while it does the job, prefer the authority of a bigger gun.

I ordered a Ruger 204 predator rifle today. Comes with a Vortex 4×12×44 scope. $650.00 It'll be my ranch truck gun for Coyotes.

yup 223 in a bolt rifle. These guns are a always useful. You can do anything with them. Hard to beat. We have one in the family every kid in the family and all their friends kids shoot or have shot. The gun has 48 notches in the butt stock. Those are first deer that were taken with it.

I could close that up I'm sure but didn't spend a lot of time on it, had ranch chores before this cold weather hit.
