My 22" barrel produces 3050 FPS with 117 grain Sierra GKs.

I will add that my Howa in 25-06 shoots great groups. I took a doe at 175 in the neck with confidence.

Other than not being a fan of the newer Remingtons, I couldn't argue with any of the suggestions given. The Thompson Center Venture might be another good option. I've been seriously considering one myself so if anyone has experience with them I hope they chime in. For what you would pay for one you could allocate more money for the glass.

Edit: There is also a $75 mail in rebate on the Ventures right now.

I'd look at anything but a Remington.

Maybe I missed it, but we still don't know what you're going to use it for? Without that and some sort of budget that's more informative than "not enough for a 26" barrel", I think it's tough to make educated suggestions. Also, do you want wood or synthetic stock, blue or stainless barrel, threaded, ?

Bluntly, redchevy is right that for a hunting gun, any Browning, Winchester, Howa, Ruger, Savage, Mossberg, Weatherby, or Tikka would be fine. For a range gun, I think your best values are Ruger, Savage, Howa, and Tikka.

I don't have any experience with the TC that Grizz mentioned.

Would prefer stainless and synthetic, but mainly want an accurate reliable gun with longevity. Really leanin now towards the savage, but this accustock thing has me confused. I don’t want a cheap flimsy stock but I don’t want to have to go out and spend money on it after buying.

Savage Axis XP Stainless gets you everything you want. Not the best stock in the world, but if you want lightweight for hunting, stainless, etc., then that's a good rifle. Can be had for around $400.

For slightly higher quality and no stainless barrel, the Tikka T3x Lite in 25-06 is a good option:

Not many synthetic hunting rifles come with top-notch stocks nowadays. So you're probably going to have to live with something like one of those and upgrade the stock if you want down the road. I think the stock on both is decent, but it seems that opinions on stocks can be all over the map, so you might find them great or super cheap and flimsy.

Two kinds of people in this world. Those that admit Savages cycle and eject poorly, and those that don't.
