I usually use Redding dies mostly for the last 20 years, would Whidden custom dies differentiate from Redding in terms of tolerance and quality for better alignment?

I have several sets and I think they are better than Redding. Ordered another set today for the 6.5/284 I am sending fired brass to have the dies made for this particular rifle but past die sets were just bought from stock.

I use whidden dies, not the custom. FL bushing and standard FL. Are they better than Redding probably but I don't think by much.

I've seen a lot of negative feedback on their seating dies but a lot of guys like their sizing dies a lot. I just got a fl bushing die from them for my 22 creed and it seems nice but no better or worse than my Redding type s stuff.

I've been using Redding rifle dies for years and have no complaints, but it seems that Forster seating dies are considered tops. I'm trying out some Forster seaters for my .22 centerfires...next time I load some batches up.

I have no complaints either about Redding dies, I have only old RCBS full sizer from 25 years ago and using it for the .308 GAP. I want to use the old RCBS die just to size virgin brass and get a better quality one for fireformed brass, its either try a Whidden for the first time or just get a Redding Type S full sizer with the bushing. Whidden advised me to send him 3 fired brass to get the die made. I just used the Redding body die yesterday to size the fired brass, then size the necks in a Competition neck sizing die from Redding. It's a pain in the [censored] to use two dies when I can just use a Whidden / Redding Type S.

I have never used the Whidden dies, the reddings seem to load ammo better than I can shoot.
Some of the most accurate loads I have loaded have been with the Lee collet dies. No case stretch from them either much like the bushing dies.

If I had it to do over again, I'd just buy Redding FL sizers and body dies, Lee collet neck dies, and Forster seaters I think.

I have quite a few of their dies, seating consistent depths is a huuuuuge pain

Dien,
try a Forster seating die, but make sure to order a VLD stem for it.

Can you use a Forster on a Redding press?

Best seating dies are Wilson...bar none.
I like the Whidden sizing dies but Redding is just as good. The Whidden bushing die seems to size a little more of the neck is why I prefer them.

Aren't Wilson dies meant to be used with an arbor press?

Aren't Wilson dies meant to be used with an arbor press? Their seating dies are arbor only from what I've seen but they make normal sizing dies.

I guess I coulda just looked at Wilson's website...dee is correct. The seaters and neck dies operate with an arbor press. Their FL dies work with a conventional press. Doesn't look like what you'd want to use for volume reloading, but I don't recall seeing the benchresters using anything else at the range.

Thanks, I have some Forster and Redding and they work fine for me.

Yes, they require an arbor press. They are the most accurate seating dies out there. While they won't beat the speed of a progressive they aren't any slower than a single stage seating process.
