I have almost 2 cases of the 3" 1 1/4oz in #3 and #4 loads I would just about give away if someone comes and gets them. Just about the worst patterning load I have run across.

David, I'll trade you what's left of my box Fiocchi #4 for some of your RIO. The Fiocchi kept jamming when I tried to eject the shells, and I just cleaned my gun. But, that's what I get for just grabbing some cheap shells the night before hunting.

Let me gather them all up and I will PM you what I have. I tried them in 2 Browning's, a Franchi and 2 Benelli's with a variety of chokes and never found anything acceptable.

I run mine in a Browning Maxus and Winchester SX2 and a new SX 4. Chokes are Lohman Marsh Max and Kicks High Flyer Imp,Mod and Full. Never had a problem with the Patterns.

I don't know, SBEII, M2, Auto-5 Mag 12, SX2, Affinity, New A5, Citori Satin Hunter, with Carlson, Trulock, Mueller and Briley chokes.
I have the Telemetrics Target pattern program and when they won't hit 50% with any given choke, factory flush or aftermarket extended, it's time to put away.
You boys want to shoot em, knock your self out, but I am not wasting my time.
I realize that I could have a bad batch, but one case is #3s and one case is #4s. I posted on another forum when I brought this up, I walked in the garage and grabbed a random shell and cut it open, it was split 3 ways, 1 large half petal and 2 smaller 1/4 petals.
These I have are junk, plain and simple.

I liked Rio dove loads so I bought some steel #4s. Parts of tips were coming apart I keep seeing stuff flying out after the wad. After picking up hulls they were in pieces. I won't buy any more. I still have the other 3 box's left on a shelf and that was 4 years ago. Sent pics to Rio and they did send me 6 boxs of #5 steel. Those seem ok but only use a few ea year for teal.

Here are the pictures and text I put up on another forum: I would like to think it would be a good round, but I have seen this too often. I walked in the garage and grabbed a round out of a random box, look at the wad, it is nothing like a Black Cloud or BXD or Blindside, it is also not properly slit either.
I tried these in #4s and #3s and patterns were either great or crappy, with no rhyme nor reason, started taking random shells apart and found this a half dozen times and just now with a newly dissected shell, what are the odds? Two cases of each size and multiple random boxes.
I would save my money on the Blue Steel and buy the Federal Ultra Shok

I've been a big fan of the Ultra Shok for a while. All I have been shootin at dux for the last 3-4 years. But, I finally had a problem with them. A week or so ago I ran into a bad box. 7 of the shells sounded like a baby rattler toy when I picked them up. On average the shells weighed .25 oz lighter than a "good" box.
The main reason I noticed is that I kept crippling birds instead of folding them. At the distance I was at and with the choke I was using it should have been all or nothing, although I could see how one or two might be hit on the edge. These were hit center but only a couple of pellets hitting. On the water cleaning them up I could see my pattern wan't very full.
Seems like it was a fluke though and the rest of the case is fine. Had no problems last weekend.

David Mass. I ran Rio Bluesteel #4 pellet 3 inch this weekend through a LM choke in a benelli. I was shooting clean up on the left side of the blind. All my ducks were flaring and all shots were 40 to 45 yards, all wood ducks. I was more than impressed with them. All but one bird fell stone dead this morning. It swam across the pond and died.
We did a pattern test, not like your program, and found no problems. I am wondering if you got a bad run of shells?

That is what I suspected, but I have a case of #3s and a case of #4s, so it makes me wonder exactly what the problem is, when it began and when or if it was corrected.

I wonder if you can send your data to Rio and tell them the problem. They might make it worth your telephone call. If I had a bad product out there, I'd like to know about it and most of all make that client happy.

I will call them tomorrow and see what they say. Be kind of nice if they bought back your ammunition and sent you replacements on their dime. That is exactly what I would do. Especially in this case where it is obvious you are no down stream shotgunner. You have multiple shotguns, put them all on paper and have a PC program for patterning. Why would they not bend over backwards to get that happy?

Well, that was a waste of time for me, I spent the better part of an hour on hold and the rep spent maybe 15 minutes discussing it and ultimately telling me that they had no reports from others, even when I offered to send them the pictures and ship them the ammo so they could at least inspect it.

Heck, I'd still send it all back with photos, then also in the letter state who you spoke with. You never know what kind of reply you will get.

Txduck 24 I ran them this weekend with nary a problem at all. In spite of my good success, I won't buy another case for fear of getting a crap case the next time. If that company won't even look at a problem a man had, I don't need them. I'll be getting back to the Remingtons.

*****UPDATE******
I received an email from Rio's customer service manager who was very concerned about the ammo. He said that the ammo was at the least pre 2014 manufacture and came from a time when they manually hand slit wads. He assured me that he would take care of me. He will be issuing a call tag for pickup and he will replace them. I did not realize that their corporate office is in Los Colinas/Irving.
We'll see what they say
