I got the APH this year but too late. My uncle wants to do an opening day dove hunt and my first thought was the Waller county property, but that is closed for the second split. Any good units in the "Houston/Beaumont" area? thanks

We hunted a property out in Katy for the first few weeks of dove season. Never even got to take the safety off.

I don't know of any of the dove only units being opening during the 2nd split and the majority of the WMAs don't allow it due to it interfering with deer hunting/waterfowl hunting.

Cochise is right, most of the dove only units in my area were only open for the first split.
My suggestion - look at the map online in the area you're hoping to go. It's pretty easy to use and has all the information on it.

I have emailed Texas Parks and Wildlife about the lack of available areas to dove hunt during the second split of the season. I suggest other hunters do so as well. Maybe if we make enough noise the wheel will get greased.

With some scouting generally private access is easier for second season because they are not in grain. Best thing to hunt late dove on is goat weed. That or a good feed lot. Depending on what the rancher is feedung
