For those that haven't read Mr. O'Connors writings he is one of our best gun scribes ever in the opine of many especially those of us that remember him as Shooting editor of Outdoor Life. He wrote this for Gun Digest on the 7X57. Being that the 7X57 and 7mm-08 are pretty much ballistic twins he could have just as easily been using the 7mm-08 as the 7X57 if it were available, for a bit of that time it was in wildcat form but this was written about 10 years before the 7mm-08 became a commercial SAAMI round. https://gundigest.com/more/classic-guns/forty-years-little-7mmLots of good insite into hunting as well as the cartridge With the advent of newer bullets the 7X57 might just be better today than when Jack and his wife were traveling the world hunting. What he wrote about it can be said about the 7mm-08 which is its modern ballistic twin, at least until you get over 162gr bullets where the X57 will have a bit of an advantage

Great old round. I own a couple of rifles in 7X57.

I have a Mannlicher-Schoenauer Model 52 in 7x57. Complete with Weaver K3 scope on Griffin&Howe mounts. It does the same job on animals it did over 60 years ago.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

The 7x57 and 6.5x55 have been killing things for over a century. It's not a surprise their modern day equivalents 7mm-08, 6.5 Creedmoor, 260 Rem are also great game killers. The animals can't read headstamps.

NICE Stuff for sure
If I had that many toys from a lifetime of collecting...I'd have to have a "special room" like an old friend had built into his last house during the construction...solid 10" or 12" concrete walls and ceiling with rebar welded in place at the wall joints and across the over head, with a bank vault door behind an innocuous looking closet door in the hallway for cover...but with what he had in it from time to time his Home Owner's Policy would not cover it...and it is as tornado proof as an above ground bunker can be.
A dealer I used to call on did something similar using concrete block with welded rebar inserted in the open chambers for walls and roof, anchored to the bottom of the foundation, and back filled with concrete...the place was COLD in the summertime too. Never had a successful breakin either. Ron
It is TIME for Term Limits, cause Politicians are like childrens diapers and for the same reasons...Robin Williams "These are the times that try men's soul's"...Thomas Paine
"Those who fail to learn from History are doomed to repeat it" ....Santayana

Still re-read Jack O’Connor’s works on rifles and hunting. Not just entertaining, they are still relevant today.
