Super Common failure point... better to be proactive and buy one of the aluminum aftermarket ones.. The stock ones ALWAYS go at the most inopportune time. Like coming out of Abilene on 20, towing a 30' camper.
Daniel Just Because... That's why.

Yes they do go out at bad times. My buddy was pulling his RV at the time as well. All that was avail to him where he was located to get back on the road was another stock one. He wants to upgrade to aluminum so he doesn't have the same problem.

I20 exit for Strawn and mine blew pulling 16’ with Ranger Crew. Loud bang caused me to pass exit then barely get up the steep hill right after exit. Factory replacement was my only choice as it was 6pm Friday afternoon.

Mine blew the Tuesday before Harvey hit south Texas, and i needed my truck to pull my 5th wheel to get away from the storm. Went off like a shotgun when i was driving, i actually thought i had ran something over. Next morning i got up, opened the hood, and found the exact same issue shown in the video. trip down to the Ford dealer and a 140 bucks later it was fixed, didn't care about the price for once in my life, all that was on my mind was getting away from the storm.
