Lots of folks say little tracts are hard to hunt. Neighbors hunt, etc etc. But every year for four years now, we get at least one good buck roaming the little 100 acres in far eastern Williamson county. Never shown these buck pics to the neighbors. They're lazy hunters, will shoot the first legal buck they see, sometimes they bend the AR rule a bit. This buck I saw in early Oct via thermal hunting hogs. As is the case of all of the big ones we see, they almost never step in front of the cam, food isn't the reason for the visit. I hunted opening morning this year and haven't been back but going this weekend. When these bigger ones do show up, it's always very early or very late and they don't hang around. It's no booner but it's not bad for a little place surrounded by little places.

Not all little places are the same. It can real easy to see big bucks with 100 acres of brush surrounded by agricultural fields.
Those are some very nice looking bucks, good luck.
It's hell eatin em live

Lots of years ago we were in Austin for a youth soccer tournament, and a couple of the fathers needed to get away from the screeching young teens, and found a golf course to walk for some peace and quiet...and saw more than a handfull of those kinda critters to dream about in mid October one weekend...I could never live down there now from the house price increases ...but it fun to remember.
Got tickled at my UT grad attorney & lease partner, whose kid was the goal keeper, "educating" another non hunting father about the mounds of marble size poop every where... Ron

Thanks
I end up being alone in the blind with no help around half the time. That's when these deer seem to show up lol. Being disabled, all I can do is shoot em with my camera. I'm older now so it's no big deal.
What I will say is I see a lot of folks say "if I don't kill em the neighbors will". Reality is the only certainty in shooting younger deer is they definitely won't be there next year. The neighbor may not get a shot at em. But I was young once so I understand the satisfaction in the kill, the finality of a lot of hard work.
I do get to chuckle to myself now and then when a neighbor of this place drops by and deer talk comes up. I show em pics on my phone of these deer and they say "that's from one of them high dollar places".

Nice and congrats! Hell, my buddies private property where he lives and we hunt on is tiny and this year we have had some great looking bucks show up on the cameras since we have a good Doe population. 100 acres is a good size chunk of land to have. Good luck this season and hope you get them!

I think that last one is part Brahma I saw him first time this year Saturday morning. He has that scar on his front right shoulder and his horns were slightly better. He wasn't swollen up from the rut though and he ate corn at the feeder for 30 min which he had no interest in last year. I was looking for the longer tined 9 pointer so I let him pass but it was tough. My bud who owns the property has a son in the Marines coming in for Thanksgiving and I figured I'd leave the old wide 8 alone cuz he'd be glad to take it. Went for a short walk Friday night and killed a yote on the move at a bit over 200 yards with the IR Hunter Mark II. My Kentucky windage and hold over skills are still good lol.

It's not the amount of land you have but the quality of the land you have. I know of one 80 acre patch that always has a good buck on it, it's adjacent to a bigger area that has a big doe band, but the buck is always in the 80 until the rut. two years of the big buck getting hit on an adjacent highway got me to give up on it.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Well, it happened. The neighbor who didn't know about the bigger deer possiblility, crossed paths with the 9 pointer, first pic in the OP. He had a broken brow tine on Thanksgiving day when the neighbors son knocked him down. He sent me a pic, I sent him a pic of what he looked like a month or so earlier. I let the cat out of the bag and told him if he'll pass up the young ones he'd be surprised at what he may run into. So I'm done for the year unless the land owners son doesn't like the old short tined 8. By the time I know that he'll likely be broken up on top.
