Widgeon with a gadwall or two mixed in. Think I'll set up next to the road.

You might have to set up under the trees to keep the sun out of your eyes.

10/26/17 Report Region: North Texas Location: Lake 8 Scouting Time: Shooting time to sunrise Observations: Saw 1 mallard. Lake 8 is difficult to get close to roosts without a boat. I had to set up on a main lake point from which I could see the feeder creeks.
No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

10/25/17 Report Region: North Texas Location: We'll call this one Lake 1 Scouting Time: Shooting time to sunrise Observations: Saw 20-25. Mostly teal with 4 positive blue wing. 2 possible mallard. Now that's a report! Yeah, that should be THF Official Duck Reporting format. He said "North"

normally don't get huntable numbers in E/SE tx on our places until mid November, sometimes thanksgiving. But, have already had a handful show up on the only water we have right now. Would be nice to have good huntable numbers for the first couple weeks!! this happened about 3 or so years ago.

10/28/2017 report My lake 1 (north Texas) 2 scouting parties. 1 east, 1 west. Met in middle. Surprisingly west party saw few ducks. Eastern party found huntable number of ducks.. Boat across middle of lake one kicked up large but scattered numbers of ducks. Consisting of 83.4% divers of some species ( most likely scaup). These birds considered unhuntable due to water depth and lack of any cover.

Our lease is just a couple miles east of the HPMMU. Went this weekend to get some stuff done around camp and move some feeders. On the way (and the way back) I started seeing groups on tanks once I got an hour or so west of Ft Worth. We have two decent ponds on the place, one is only about an acre but has lots of groceries. The other is 3.5 acres. The smaller one was holding a couple dozen greys and wigeon, the larger one had well over 100. Decided to take the boat and try to hunt HPMMU on Saturday. The Astros game made us stay up late drinking beer so we decided to try to roll in later than normal. West-ish Texas, nobody cares about ducks out here, right? Got to the ramp, parking lot was full of trucks with DU stickers and empty boat trailers. Turned my arse right around and went back. Was a good nap.
