Our place in Teauge has been hit pretty hard with pigs lately. Was able to kill two good size boars this weekend. I took them to the "graveyard" an area on the back of the place where we take dead cows/calves, coyotes and pigs. The graveyard is an old washout, surrounded by big mesquite trees and is a pretty steep slide to the bottom.
We lost a good size calf last Thursday, took him to the graveyard and dumped him. He was gone the next morning. Not just ate, the whole corpse was gone. No trace of it. Friday night, dumped about a 175 lbs boar, same thing the next day, body is gone without a trace. Saturday night killed about a 200 lbs boar. Dumped him, same thing, totally gone. We cannot find any trace of them. Have searched that area pretty hard. No bones, no bodies.
I cant see a coyote dragging a big boar that far and have never known them to do that, they will normally just eat em on the spot.
What could be dragging these bodies from the graveyard without a trace? Dare I say, mountain lion? Hope to put a few more pigs down this weekend and will be putting up a game cam at the graveyard.

Coyotes. I've caught 3 of them dragging a boar the next morning after dumping him.

Has to be coyotes, but man, that's a lot of meat to go that quickly.
I dropped a 215-lb boar a couple of years ago the Friday before Labor Day. Came back through on Monday and there was no trace of him. Not a hair, nothing. If a pack of coyotes is hungry, they can put away a lot in a hurry. You must have a ton of them around.

I killed 3 decent sized pigs and dumped them in the same spot and came back less than a week later and all I found was a single jawbone. No hide, bones, nothing. I was pretty amazed that it had been totally cleaned up in 6 days.

Coyotes. I set a game cam on carcasses of 10 hogs we quartered a few years ago. Dropped the carcasses at noon and they were gone the next day, all 10 heads and all. Game cam showed buzzards first, other hogs at dusk, an opossum at 10 and then coyotes at 2 am. No drag marks, bones or blood left.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Interested to see this weekend with a trail cam.

Nothing unusual about what you described based on my experience. We called it the "Boneyard".
The only thing that I found unusual is a carcass that someone let lay that would go a day or two without being touched

I've dumped hundreds of hog carcasses in some areas, and initially tried cameras to see where they were all going. Mostly the buzzards will swarm the carcasses and get the bodies reduced to the bones. I've never seen a hog on the cameras eating the leftovers, but coyotes will come by and run off with pieces. A 200 lb. hog will normally disappear overnight, but occasionally parts of it will be left the next day. If I take the hind legs off a hog it surely will disappear quickly...I guess giving easier access to the internals makes it easier for the buzzards.

Doubt it is a lion. Most likely a combination of coyotes, buzzards, and other hogs.

There will have to be drag marks and that should give you a direction on where to look. Doubtful it is a lion because they are not big on eating carrion. Most likely dogs in that part of the world. A couple of big dogs can move most anything and with all of the wild dogs or even domesticated dogs that run loose I think that would be your best bet. Coyotes can and will drag dead critters but ones as large as you describe would be pretty difficult. Adios, Gary

Not hogs...they hit carcasses but don't eat that much of them...lions like to kill more then scavenge usually. I'm guessing a good sized group of worms..lol

We have our own bone yard (I call it) and you can throw out a carcass, and will hardly find a trace. Coyotes, birds, hogs, all well fed! I've thrown big hogs out thinking I'd come back and get the cutters from the skull after it dried out, and I have yet to find a skull, maybe a jawbone now and then, but even the big heavy heads disappear.

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I've hunted only a few different properties over the past 15 years and we've never had much attention to the gut pile. We have javis and mountain kitties on the Terrell County property, but nothing ever touches the fresh guts that are dumped

We also have a bone yard. Sometimes a big hog will sit till the maggots finish him off or he just decomposes into the dirt and sometimes they will be gone the next morning. Coyotes make quick work of them, a group will eat what they can and I have seen them leaving our bone yard with a leg bone with scraps attached before so they do carry bits and pieces off. My bet would be coyotes and a bunch of them.

Like most others have said pigs and yotes will disappear a carcass overnight especially quick when they already know where to look.

If y'all got that many coyotes y'all need to be hunting these guy piles bc they are obviously a little over populated. I don't think all coyotes should be killed but they need to be kept in check. If they can clean out a gut pile in a night there are too many of them.

When your trying to hunt deer that is easier said than done. We have found that trapping is more of an art form and with grass 3+ feet tall covering nearly the entire property shooting them is a chore.
