I have not seen near the number of birds in the last 2-4 weeks as I was seeing this spring and early summer. Do you think they are in hiding? Or the hot/dry July took them out? Starting to get a bit nervous...

We are having the same experience at one of our leases. The cows ate it down pretty good. I think they moved to a high cotton field with big overgrown ditches next door to one side and a mesquite flat that has better cover on the other. In our area water is definitely not an issue so I think the birds move around.
We are not Really trying to find them but we see them on the road and the edges of neighboring property's. we keep getting good rain so we are hoping the cover catches up before it gets cold. They usually start dropping hay by then. I think a dead give away you have a problem is when you see only a few birds in a covey.
On our other lease that has a really good population we deer hunt and we're driving super fast to get feeders filled. We saw quite a few coveys running out of the way. Good sized coveys.
