I wanted to share this video with my hog hunting friends here in this forum. I post alot of hog hunting videos and a few days ago I had either a Mountain Lion, Cougar, or some type of Panther show up during one of my late night hog hunts. This has been a little secret of mine that I haven't shared with many people, mostly because I didn't want people around here in East Texas to think I was crazy, but I've had a Mountain Lion/Big Cat either living or hunting 100 yards from my front door for the past 8 months. In the past he's always eluded the opportunity for me to take a clean shot...until he showed up for the last time during the middle of hog hunt. From the video you'll see him amazingly jump 7 or 8 feet in the air after taking a shot to the front right shoulder. Be careful out in those fields chasing hogs guys, you never know what you might run into..

The short answer is no I didn't see any blood. But, it was dark, wet, and the grass was thick. I really couldn't tell where he was laying until I watched the video. I searched all night long...
The grass that he was laying behind, I measured is two feet tall. Laying down with his head up he was several inches taller than that very tall grass. He was big, definitely wasn't a feral house cat. But, before I flipped the camera on I saw him walk over before laying down and I knew it was that Big Cat. Now it might be a panther or cougar, not really sure. I was just sad that I didn't get to recover him...

I'm pretty sure a panther, cougar, and mountain lion are all the exact same thing. Just different names in different places. I could be wrong

This same one has been spotted in the daytime by a neighbor but she couldn't tell him anything other than it was huge... She said standing up it came up to over her knees and was several feet long..

I'm not familiar with the location of a mountain lions major organs but maybe look for a diagram and then maybe you can try and determine if you made a kill shot or not. I know some animals organs are further forward or further back then others

that' true. I just don't know enough about their anatomy. I just knew that I had to shot him when I had the chance because he either lives or hunts in the field where my young daughters play at night...

Well, I saw him walk over to that spot before I flipped the camera on and he had a long tail. Also, the two other times that I've seen him I spotted the long tall right away. One night he was sitting on a limb in a big tree and I saw him jump, head first, straight down from a 15 foot drop like it was nothing.

My biggest fear is my neighbor Paul finding the Big Cat dead somewhere on his property and try to take credit for shooting him.. haha!

If you thought you had one living there, why not put a camera out? Sorry, but I think I'm in the Bobcat camp.

I'm so focused on getting rid of the pigs in my area that all my cameras are being used to find out when the hogs are coming in. You don't have to apology for thinking it's a bobcat. That's why I freeze-framed the picture at the end of the video showing the tail. I definitely don't think what I believe is a tail might be blood pouring out because blood on thermal would show a very bright white color. But, that's the problem with not recovering it, we'll never really now. You could very well be right.

Shucks, wish you could have found it. It would have sucked if it was your neighbor's cat, in that case let Paul take full credit. But it looked bigger than that, and a high jumper for sure. I have had deer when shot jump like that, one even hit the barrel feeder that was on six foot legs. So a possible hit, or hit something so close that it scared the bejeebers out of him.

Yeah, it jumped really high and he was very long. But like I said, i've seen him around for the past 8 months. I have two young daughters that build sandcastles just a few yards away from where i shot him..

Push come to shove maybe you hit under it and someday it'll be back . But I'd be using a larger caliber best of luck.

I've definitely still been out there at night looking for it.. I may have missed but that scope is dialed in very tight at 50 to 100 yards. I dropped a coyote on a full sprint at 75 yards with it the day after I shot this cat.

Based on the video, shot placement looked good. He ran off and died, or, will move on to another area.
