Just a quick ? for those in the know. How accurate is a mini 14. I'm looking at a used one right now but am wondering just how accurate they are hot, cold, Distances, etc....? Just curious before I decide to go threw with the deal. Will mostly be used as a ranch toy for pigs, yotes,etc....and home protection.lol

I have heard that the newer Mini-14 is more accurate than the older guns. The mini-14s I've been around did not shoot good at all. I have not seen one that would shoot much better than a 4" group at 100. I would forgo the mini and get an AR. They're much more accurate and parts and accessories are very plentiful. There are many ARs that will shoot 1/2" groups right out of the box. The AR is a much better platform IMHO.

I've had one about 30 years and hardly ever shoot it because it's not very accurate. At 100 yards, about the best I ever get is a 6 inch group. it shoots the same no matter what (factory) ammo I shoot. I don't recomend them.

oh heck, nevermind, I just saw a good deal(beats the heck out AR prices nowadays)but I'll have to pass. I'll just stick to what I got in that case. I can't beleive mini's are going for what they are if they are that in-accurate.

I've always wanted a mini-14 too but just couldn't plunk down the cash with their accuracy history. I still think about getting a mini-30 but haven't heard anything about them really.

I was killing time this afternoon in a Houston gun store and looked at their stainless mini-14s. $995.

Which is capital C crap! It's a good gun, worth about $400. It's not intended for precision work, which is why I would never scope one. From 0-50 yards, I think it is one of the best pig guns you can get. It makes a great truck gun as well, and mine used to sit beside my bed.

The mini 14 is why they came out with 30 round magazines for rifles. I have one that I got in the mid 70's, and with a 30 round mag you might hit a five gallon bucket 5 times at 100 yards. The only reason I am keeping it is because it is one of the first production run rifles and has the slot in the stock for the select fire. But it is only semi auto. Plus I have 10 of the factory 20 round magazines from the 70's also. Take everybodys advice and get an AR!

Save yourself some money and buy a slingshot! They're way more accurate than a mini 14. Seriously, been there, done that and no matter what we did it never would group any better than 8" at 100yrd. Absolutely pathetic.

I bought one on here about a year ago. I shot it once and sold it the next week.

the old one we have won't shoot under a 4" group at 100. Bought a new one 2 years ago (stain/syn) thinking maybe they had improved and it wouldn't group under 5".

I have shot a lot of mini 14s, some mine, most agency owned, officer/deputy issued patrol weapon. In shooting at 100yds, the different guns accuracy showed, until I shot them...I am no super shot but the quality of the sights, is lacking. Some people cannot use peep sights and some peep sight can't be shot accurately by everyone. Battlefield accuracy; shooting at a replacement center of a B-27 target, a B-29 or B-34 target.
The Mini 14 is not a precision rifle out of the box, 3-6" is not uncommon. Scope it or Red dot it, has to get better, even a little trigger work will help.

Maybe I just got lucky, but I bought one a couple months ago that was pretty accurate right out of the box. I put a scope on it a few weeks ago and now it will shoot 2- 2 1/2 inch groups, which is good enough for what I do with it. It was brand new, one of the 580 series.

I have one and it shoots great. Usually around an inch at a hundred yards. This is of course after I spent more $500 on a new barrel.

Mine shoots 2" groups at 100 yards with the Hornady V-Max 55gr. I've tried other rounds, but Hornady has produced the best results at this time.

Ours shoots just under 2" with Fiocchi 55gr fmj. I smoothed up the trigger. We installed an accu-strut. We have a 6X Cabelas Alaskan Guide scope on it. Shoots cheap .223 and 5.56 around 2".
God is so good to me.
