Good afternoon: I'd like to write an article for a Texas hunting magazine on this subject and was hoping to get lots of good feedback/quotes from you all here on the forum. Resolutions could be from a hunter and/or landowner angle. Like maybe build a new stand? Get in hunting shape? Take a kid hunting? Hunt a new animal? Plant more food plots?
Please share share share! You can message me here or send an email. My deadline is Oct. 1 so I need to get goin' on this!
Thanks!

This year is my first year as a Ft Hood guided hunting program guide. My goals were to get all 30 of our stands in good shape and that included anything from painting to replacing floors and roofs that were rotting it weathered. We have almost all of them fixed and in working order along with building 3 new blinds and relocating a few of the old ones. Now it is time to start trimming up the lanes for each stand and making sure the hunters will have a great experience. This is all volunteer work but I have enjoyed every minute of it so far. Hopefully we glcan get all the hunters on good deer or at least have them see deer and have a good experience.

As an older hunter, I try to continue to hunt as hard as I used to. I live out of state in Idaho now, and that means mountains (with a capital M). This makes me stay in healthy physical shape, I compete with my 35 and 41 year old sons in everything we do outdoors, and we try to give several of my grand-children who are interested in hunting the time of their lives in the outdoors. I am lucky to be able to return to Texas on an annual basis, and I enjoy participating in the TPWD Public Drawn Hunts program. Last year was a dream year for me, as I won a guided Scimitar Horned Oryx hunt on the Mason Mt. WMA.

Kill the sika buck I shot at with my bow two years ago. Have seen him twice in the past month but was in velvet so he got a pass. Gonna start chasing him here in a week or so.
Kill a nice whitetail or axis with my bow. This is something I have not done yet.
Get my first elk.
Time constraints with the family make it unlikely I'll get to go to west Texas this year so after Colorado I hope to have a good year here closer to home. Maybe do a bit more duck hunting with the time I would have spent out west
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Force myself to kill more than one deer. Need to make sausage this year.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I guided my eldest niece to her first buck last year. This year, it's her younger sister's turn.

I have killed deer with rifle, bow and crossbow. This year, I will try and rattle up a good sized mature buck that will be close enough to dispatch with my open site .45 colt handgun. A 225 grain bullet should do the trick!

As I have gotten older, I get a much bigger thrill from getting someone else a nice deer. I'll take the jacked-up buck or a doe, and be as happy as ever to have some venison in the freezer. But when I can get a kid their first deer, that is the most awesome thing you can ever witness while hunting. I have had the honor of guiding several kids through their first deer, including my own girls. It is a rush to witness such a site of pure excitement. I hope some kiddos are out this year, that will make for an awesome season, even if I don't get anything.

Hunt that stand that I put up two seasons ago that I made a resolution to hunt last season but never did.

With a tight and ever on going work schedule... I can say hands down my answer is a simple one. More time afield and especially with my father, no matter the adventure!

Not let the sounds of the neighbors having target practice, four wheeler races, and running chainsaws bother me. Make the same resolution every year, haven't managed to keep it yet.
Thank you...thank you very much

Have fun and just enjoy the outdoors but also try not to let the little things like the neighbors new stand that is 20 feet off our fence bother me...
