Guys, I think that there is an open call for boats to help in Houston. I have been trying to call the number all morning to help. I can bring my G3 down from Dallas with a flat bottom and lights to help but cannot get in touch with anyone to help. We have the perfect boats for this. Anyone know who to reach out to? I just don't want to contribute to a traffic jam on I45?

Get on facebook and search "Houston area off-road recovery"
There are literally hundreds of people posting their address. If you have a boat and are willing to help, grab a few cases of water in Allen somewhere, fill up some gas cans, grab every PDF you have and head south...

and they still need them. the majority of people have no idea how bad and widespread it is. what you see on the news does not do it justice. I've been on the water 8+ hrs a day for the last three. take 45 south until you find a rd closure which won't take long, and ask the leo s there. that's what I did each day, and stayed busy ALL day. some individual emergency calls where you go to a specific address to get elderly/medical/infants, etc. otherwise its door to door, and it doesn't take long to load the boat down.

Still a need for boats as of today.
DPS has roads closed coming into Houston and other areas - if you have a boat and are there to help they have been advised to let you in.

Went today. Drove from dfw to conroe. My parents friends were stranded in kingwood. We got to em before our first responder teams. I learned today, and I'm not bashing anyone, but the fire dept and tactical first responders who are "trained" for that stuff, all show no go. Many chiefs not a lot of Indians. I broke off throttle down from the mess. Got 11 adults 4 kids 5 dogs and 4 cats to safety. If u go, go to make a difference, not play.

Your first hand experience is different than some posts from people sitting in Dallas talking about what is going on and too many chiefs without organization does no one any good.

If u go make certain you have enough horsepower at least 50 or more, the currents are crazy. Neighborhoods and apartment complexes are like raging waters. Kayaks and hey skis are worthless. We were in kingwood all day. Saw elderly people being helped out. Know what to watch for...cars are completely submerged meaning you will run over the tops of em. White sheets hanging from windows, go check the house. Yell call out alerting people your there to help. It is truly bonkers down there.

Houston is very bad right now along with the surrounding cities, however lets not forget the tragedy in rock port and port aransas that has been in the cleaning process for 2 days now and still looks like it will be several months of pick up. If you have tbe resources to help in boats by all mean run to the millions needing it in houston, but if youre wanting to contribut by just lending a hand to those in need... head to the coast. We should be down in houston friday and sat, then to port a and rock port sunday and monday.

Don't go to the staging areas, find another boat or two, find an area, get your boat into the water and go ride around and try to find people. Too many chiefs at the "staging and meeting" areas. Go be the Indian, that way you will make a difference and not go sit doing nothing. Had a group of friends that went and did just that. I told them bit to do so too. We were able to help people. They sat at a church waiting for 2 days.

I appreciate yalls help. I've been volunteering here in the Katy area as well. As of yesterday, volunteer Search & Rescue crews moved on to east of Houston and the Golden Triangle area. YES, if you're a civilian volunteer, download the ZELLO app (its free), and add the "TEXAS SEARCH AND RESCUE" channel Some have volunteered as dispatchers. I was doing the same for the Katy area on Monday. YES, if you find a gas station with gas, fill every approved container you can. http://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbth...l,_#Post6874696

I've never seen so many duck boats in my life. I think that the count is close to 7000 CONFIRMED rescues by volunteers.

They sat at a church waiting for 2 days. I didn't even make it to the staging areas before I stopped to pull a tweaker lady out of her floating car. I spent the rest of the day dragging people out of cars that people drove into floodwaters. Freaking CRAZY! There were so many calls, they couldn't dispatch them fast enough! Texas Search and Rescue and the Cajun Navy were the heroes of the week, though. Especially the ladies on dispatch. It's nice to know to GET THE F OFF THE WATER before a levee breaks or an amonia plant explodes! Those girls ROCK! I think they slept a total of 45 minutes since Saturday. Very impressive for a volunteer operation.

Listen and read Purvis above, in Houston too many chiefs not enough indians. I started Sunday pulling people out, along with a lot of others; yesterday, wife said that was it for me for a day or two due to total exhaustion but will head East tomorrow between Houston and Beaumont. Download Zello app. and talk to the dispatchers. A group of us started calling ourselves Cajun Navy-Houston Branch. Kayakers and Skiers leave them at home and just team up with boat owners, rivers currents are strong.
Don't talk the talk if you didn't walk the walk.
