It's not actually a town anymore I don't think but I have a chance to hunt some land there. The southern border is the Rio Grande so it's middle of nowhere and rough country as you know. It's nine hours from my house so it'll only be a trip a two per year but anybody that hunts near there have any information I'd appreciate it.

Any place that close to the river has its issues. I spent 6 seasons hunting south and north of Laredo close to the river. At least there was plenty of BP presence. Border patrol will probably less prevalent in that area. Looks pretty remote. Be safe. Probably not much cell service. What are you hunting there?

There is zero cell service and land owner will not allow anyone to hunt alone, he says two minimum and four or five is better. Extremely remote area, people can disappear there pretty easy. He claims the illegal presence is minimal due to the fact they have to hike some pretty good hills to get out and it's so far to any real civilization. It's going to be an adventure for sure, only one road on the place and it follows the river. I'm pretty sure I'm in but wanted as much info as I can get.

Grew up around that country and Pinto Canyon. Which ranch? Great place to spend some time behind the glass. Also a fun place if your are into to long range shooting, cause its hard to get close (especially the aoudad). If you are not from down that way or understand what it is like, do your homework. 2+ hours to a hospital, illegals will likely be present although you may not see them.

That area is very remote and rugged. Unless they have a predator control program, there will not be many deer. The country is so rugged that coyotes are not the problem, it is lions and they are worse on mature deer than coyotes. There can be a lot of javelinas and in some areas, too many. Aoudads do seem to thrive in that country. Water is always an issue out there. Is water pretty well disbursed across the ranch? Most ranchers gravity flow water in several directions from wells with storage tanks. If you get out there and think you have a lion problem, give me a call. Adios, Gary

Sounds fascinating.
Would be a lot of fun, even if the deer population is down as Gary suggests. I have no way of knowing if that would be true. But shooting javelin and aoudad out there would be a gas anyway.
Read some of Cormac's border trilogy before you go through there - maybe The Crossing.

Adios, Gary I'll send you a pic of a lion if they are a problem. So far I was told there is no irrigation, no field, no roads to speak of, very few deer a ton of aoudad and tons of foxes. I don't really care about the deer if they are there I'll kill one if not I'm not worried about it. I'm there for the aoudad and javelina. I do think it's a done deal now, I'll know in a couple days.

I don't know about the area west of Chinati Peak, but east is Cibolo Creek and great hunting! And not just exotics, but also lots of whitetail. Shot my first javelina out there. Pretty warm days, and really cool nights with almost no humidity.
I don't know, so just a guess, but I would think the illegal problem is pretty minimal out that far. Man, it is just not close to anything on either side. No roads, no water, no towns, basically no cover. Seems like it would certainly be less of a problem than areas closer to populations where IA can blend in more quickly like Laredo, Acuna, El Paso, Eagle Pass, etc.
Dalroo Deep in the Heart of Texas How about that Brandon!
