I tend to use Improved in my 20 and modified in my 12. I think your logic is backwards on this. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the only difference in 12 ga vs 20 ga is number of pellets, where 12 ga has more pellets. Velocity is the same. So given that, IC for 12 ga and mod for 20, here (theoretically) your pellets density is the same, velocity is the same, but a 12 ga gives you a bigger pattern. Agreed- IC or skeet on decoying cridders- Mod or tighter if passing shots. iC Mod on double barrel for quail. Xtra Full in South America. Typically MOD in 20Ga- shoot 7.5 1oz in that vs 7/8

Does it really matter put a choke in and go hunting It does matter if you have an average shooter with a full choke he or she is going to have a very frustrating time on the field guarantee that-you can knock down Dove 70+ yards with improved cylinder and 7 1/2's w a 12ga consistently

IC for skeet, mod for hunting. I either want to hammer a bird or miss it. For clays I will take a chip

Skeet if the shots are close. Modified if the shots are far.

Does it really matter put a choke in and go hunting Yes, it matters No it really does not. I hunted with a guy last yr, he shot a dove about 40 to 45 yds with a skeet choke he said he got lucky, he stoned the bird. He then missed 20 to 30 birds at 20 yds or less. Why did he miss the up close birds? It's easy he is or was a terrible shot, it's that simple. If he would have had a Mod choke on the long shot he would have killed the bird. And with the same Mod choke on the short close range shots he would have still missed the birds. If he would have put some range time in before dove season he would be a better shot. You don't miss because of your choke, you miss because you can't shoot. Don't blame the choke or the gun don't fit excuse go pratice. I recently won a long shot comp, it was a 55 to 60 yd crossing target I hit it 2 out of 3 times, with a IC. I went back and reshot with a skeet and hit it 1 time and a full hit it 1 time and lt mod and hit it 1 time out of 3 guess what every shot I missed I was behind I did not miss because of choke selection I missed because my barrel was in the wrong place when I pulled the trigger. Just go pratice put a choke in "SET IT AND FORGET IT"
If it bleeds I can KILL IT

Improved Modified so I can reach out there for the long ones
The child tells what he got for Christmas, the mature man tells how he spent the day, the immature hunter tells how many birds he shot, the mature gunner tells of the experience. -George Bird Evans

I usually use I/C but have been tossing around the idea of switching to Light Modified. Seems to be the forgotten choke for the most part.
