 found crawling on ground this weekend. Thought aliens had invaded at first, but as it turns out they are native to east Texas. Regal Moth (Hickory Horned Devil). At least 6-8 inches long. Notice the Hickory nut next too him. Banana was for size comparison. Didn't work. He was to quick.

THE HICKORY HORNED DEVIL At six inches or more in length and covered with ouchy-looking horns and spikes, this may be the most startling caterpillar you are likely to encounter in the USA. Despite their appearance, the horns and spikes are actually flexible and not sharp at all. When bothered or annoyed, the caterpillar uses the considerable strength of its fat six-inch body to whip its horns in the direction of the predator. This is apparently rather disconcerting to anything considering making a meal of it.
