That is pretty long list! It's actually a little bit of a bad time to make that list for several reasons. The new Pulsar models are just about to start rolling in within the next week or so, the current Armasight thermals will be going away later this year and we know very little about the new FLIR thermals. Basically a giant chunk of the thermal market is in limbo right now compared to how things will likely look this fall. I think that list is going to be filled with Pulsar units in the mid-range and IR Defense units on the high end, but I wouldn't fill comfortable filling it out until we have more new models from multiple brands shipping. Just my 2 cents!

What's up fellas, here's my rundown:
Under $1000 = not much, maybe a cell phone seek or something. FLIR TK I guess. No actual thermal rifle scopes in this range.
$1000-2000 = Pulsar RXQ30V that's fixing to come out @ $1899 (Hard pass on the THOR HD)
$2000-3000= Pulsar Apex XQ38-XQ50 Trail XQ30 that are fixing to come out, all under 3
$3000-4000= Armasight Zeus 42 336 or Pulsar Trail XQ38 or 50 that are about to come out, prices through the range
$4000-5000 = Armasight Zeus 42 640 or new Trail XP38 or 50, prices 4.5-5
$5000-6000 = Trail XP50 or Trijicon MKII 20mm or Zeus 75mm 640, prices 5-5.5
$6000-7000 = Trijicon MKII/III 35mm or Zeus Pro 50mm, prices 6.5-7
$ 7000 - $10,000 = Zeus Pro 100mm / Trijicon Reap-IR / MKIII 60, prices starting at 8
$10,000 - ballers and real high rollers? LWTS or T70 (No reason to get these though because of the Trijicon stuff below 10)
I'm doing a promo video hunt with Pulsar here weekend after next. Will be running the new Trail XP50 plus maybe the RXQ30V. Should get some good footage through the new stuff and get some hands on with it.
I run a Reap and a Zeus Pro mostly so I don't expect it to hold up to those with image quality but like all Pulsar stuff it will be well thought out and easy to use and will produce a great image. I have used it but haven't hunted with it yet.

I have a Zeus Pro 640 75 and absolutely love it. The 640 makes a huge difference in my opinion from the 336. I had both.

^^^Fact!
Another thing with a 640 is once you digital zoom 2X you're still essentially seeing a 320 image. So zoom is still fairly useable.

^^^Fact! lol That is the biggest thing I try to stress to customers when they are teetering on whether to buy 640 or not, assuming budget isn't a huge issue.

Looks like now is a good time to sell a kidney in order to buy a thermal.

I'm not in the market for a kidney but a low mileage liver might not be a bad deal.

I'm not in the market for a kidney but a low mileage liver might not be a bad deal. Hmm, I'm afraid my liver probably has too many miles on it … probably gonna have to pay in dollars. But, seriously thinking this is the year I get a thermal weapon sight! Given that the 640 cores are an obvious step up from the 320 cores, is 60Hz a major improvement compared to 30Hz? Does it make a lot of difference when trying to shoot a running hog?
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

60 and 30 isn't really all that noticeable. You'd have to be scanning for a fast moving vehicle to notice any lag at all. It's more marketing than anything.
You won't notice the difference on a hog in actual use. Some the high dollar thermals (Reap-IR) have selectable 30-60hz modes.
30 HZ scopes will use less battery.

Under $1000 = none
$1000-2000 = save your money($600 more to Apex XQ38)
$2000-3000= Apex XQ38 or Apex XQ50
$3000-4000= Trail XQ38 or Trail XQ50
$4000-5000 = Save your money again unless the Trail XP38(low mag) fits your bill.
$5000-6000 = Trail XP50
$6000-7000 = Mk2 35 or Zeus Pro 640
$ 7000 - $10,000 = REAP-IR or MK3 60mm depending on a few things.
$10,000 - ballers and real highrollers? Save your money after a MK3 60mm or buy multiple units.

Just a quick correction, the RXQ30V is $1,899. I agree with the rest of your conclusion though. - Jason

I agree with the rest of your conclusion though. - Jason Sign up for a credit card that gives you 150 or 200 cash back for spending 1500.00 in the first 30 - 90 days. It's essentially free money so long as the CORE RXQ30V is your only purchase and you pay it off before interest kicks in. For those who have the full funds this is a no brainer

hmm, I know someone just ordered one at $1699 RXQ30V [/quote] Really? Wow, I'd like to know where. Someone is giving them away then, because that's crazy cheap. I'm not really sure why a dealer would do that anyway because the supply is so limited right now. I've got a waiting list.

^^^Yep agree. Also, Pulsar is cracking down on dealers that are selling below cost just to get a sale. They want to maintain the value of their product. You guys would be surprised how slim the margins are on most of the these things. Factor in overhead and things like that and a dealer really don't have any room to discount these things.

Hence the beauty of the cash back credit card option... 1) the dealer gets their asking price 2) the banks get a new account and momentary revenue 3) the customer gets their good at a further discount without bleeding the manufactuer or dealer of product value or profit It's a Win-Win-Win I shot a coyote with my CORE scope on Sunday evening, having transitioned away from digital night vision to Thermal I am beginning to fully realize just how effective and efficient I can be with a sub $ 2k product. You've got to try one......
