I know the .270, .308, .30-06, and even the 7mm debate will go on for ever but here it is one more time, which is used more, or is prefered over the others. this question but gets fairly even results from those who answer, lets see if we can get more presice results. And if you would even include what youve hunted with your selected caliber.

I own .308 and .30-06, but never hunt with them. Yet I voted .30-06. I hunt with three rifles mostly 6.5x55 Swede, 375 Win, 300 Wby. Choice of the day/hunt depending on conditions of hunt and game hunted. But if I only owned one rifle to hunt with, it would be in the versatile .30-06.

My 1st deer rifle was a 270. It was a birthday present in 1984. I still have it and still use it, when I'm not using my 257Wby. It has taken many, many deer. I also have a 308. But unfortuantely it never sees any action unless I'm hunting thick woods.

I have used the .270, .308 and the 30-06 on deer, exotics and hogs. I am not a fan of the 7mm-08 in my opinion use a 25-06, I know alot of people like them I just dont get it. A .284 bullet in a short action. I guess really I am a long action fan, the .308 I use is an AR-10.
And by the way the .257weatherby is a great caliber.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

I have 3 .270's love the guns, also a 7mm mag and a .280, by far my .280 is my most favorite. I have killed more game with it than any other round.
BTW--->the 3 .270's, Ruger M77, Remington BDL (wife's gun, she picked it out and bought it without my help) Browning White Gold Medallion A-Bolt never been fired.

I have a 3006 and have killed lots. Though I don't have one I chose the 308 as my answer because I believe less recoil is better in making accurate shots and I like the short action. Almost every 06 ive shot is a shoulder punisher; so why not shoot the same bullet with less recoil?

I just don't know anymore since times are changing with the ammo. I like the 30-06 because they used to be the least expensive round and mostly available from the store. Now nothing is inexpensive and it takes more powder to load than some other rounds. Although I shoot the 30-06, and have a 308 that's really to nice of a gun to take in the field(safe Queen). I have been shooting the 243 mostly followed by the 6mm. Reloading you only have to buy one projectile for both and same with the 308 & 30-06. I will think about this more before I post my decision. HMMM The 243 is an auto(stalker)and the 6mm is a bolt(blind) and the 6 is way more accurate but the 243 is way more fun to shoot and a better gun to truely hunt with (Stalking). But then again the 30-06 is a pump and it makes a great stalker and stopper for Hogs. Do any of you guys see where I'm coming from I think you really need more than 1 gun to deversify the type of hunting you're doing. I really don't see any need to vary from these rounds and no need to punish yourself with a larger Cal. It doesn't make sense if you can only shoot 3-10 rns and get beat up. Shall I keep going, I could.

A friend of mine was popping turkey with the 30-06 and it actually did less damage than the smaller rounds.

seemed pretty clear to me what the results were from the other poll.
I changed my vote from 7 08 to 30-06 just because you wanted a different result.
the 7 08 is plenty for texas unless you're shooting an imported cape buffalo.

im not sure which poll ur looking at but this one isnt clear, 30% 3006 isnt desicive by any means, and i dont "want" any results, i want to see what experienced hunters use and why, like i said before i want one rifle, if i could afford several it wouldnt be an issue, but thank you, i appreciate your vote.

I choose to mostly hunt with 'Other'-300wm. Worrying about wasting meat is for those that don't know how to shoot. But I will never be in the woods wishing I had more gun. (However, will say I have killed several deer and hogs with each caliber on the poll....and if I absolutely have to chose 1, then I would go with the 30-06 shooting the oldschool 150gr win. silvertips)

Just get a 25-06 and you won't have to worry about any thing.... including recoil sensitvity

If you are worried about the recoil of the .30-06, get an auto. I have a Remington 7400 and can shoot 5 boxes at one sitting and not feel it a bit. Not trying to sound tough or anything, because I am VERY recoil sensative. I can't hardly shoot my brothers break over single shot 16ga. with bird shot in it.

Killed deer with the 308 and the 30-06 and the 7mm.
30-06 will work hands down, you will never be under gunned for anything.
I killed a small spike deer with the 308 this year as a matter of fact, first time I ever hunted with that caliber. Shot him in the head at 80 yards and he never knew what hit him!
