Hoping to get some info regarding finding a reputable outfitter in South Africa hunting only a +/_ 50 inch Kudu and possibly a trophy warthog, I'm thinking surely there would be one that would cost less than $10-15K , minimum charged here in the US. Seems as though most have packages with no substitutions while others nickel- dime-ing to no end. Hopefuly there would be at least one that would do one for around $4K including day rate , airfare and gratuities not included. Looking to book for 2018 thanks okiehuntr

You might contact Edmond at Harloo Safaris. He has a very nice place with good food and lots of kudu and warthogs. Another fine Ph that now has his own company is Brian Suddaby. Dont rule out Namibia. I've had great hunts there as well. Makalaan Safaris had more big kudu than any other place I had been. They have both a rifle area and a bow area, each area was over 12,000 acres. I had a great hunt with Vaughn Fulton Safaris but I'm not sure if he is still hunting. Shoot some emails to outfits you are interested in and see what they offer. As a side note, on my first safari I took six animals including kudu and gemsbok all in, including airfare for $4500.

We can most certainly help you out there Ockiehuntr. Putting together custom packages is better suited to what the client is wanting and we would love to help you out with that. We have a current thread going on THF of some of the trophies taken with us. You welcome to scroll through it and see the type of animals we have on offer. http://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbth...Saf#Post6283849Please feel free to drop me an email with your desires. I'd be happy to put something together. info@kingsviewsafaris.co.za.

While there are hundreds of great outfitters in South Africa, and definitely plenty with 50 plus inch Kudu, I think Namibia is a much better choice for Kudu. I hunted with Peter Clausen, owner of Okosongoro. He is one of the original hunting outfitters in Namibia and knows pretty much everyone there. From hanging out with Peter at SCI and all the other outfitters from Namibia, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. They are all great friends and get along great. Good friends of mine have gone there and everyone has gotten great trophies and had a great time. Everyone had gotten Kudu over 50 inches. Mine was 52 inches and outside the fence. He has 30,000 acres fenced in, and access to 45,000 acres that are not fenced in. And if something shows up on a neighbors property, he knows everyone and they will give him a call. After shooting mine, we saw a really nice 55 inch Kudu, plus several more in the low 50's similar to mine.
South Africa is different. Some ranches wont have Kudu, or they just have a few species, so you drive from ranch to ranch. Other ranches have everything, but they can be kind of like big business and you are just another client that the staff takes care of. I personally like a place where you hang out with the owner of the ranch, eat at their house and get to know them. If you can find all that in South Africa, and they have good Kudu, you'll be fine.

A cape kudu from the East Cape of South Africa shot in 2008. He's not terribly large, but the hunt was excellent. I was very nearly run over by a warthog on this hunt. A much larger Namibian kudu from this past year. None of this is meant to suggest that Namibia is better than South Africa, as there are pros and cons of both locations and the outfitter/property/concession is far more important than the country. Have you considered speaking to a number of outfitters in person at the Dallas Safari Convention in January? I can personally recommend both eZulu (ex Swartkai) and Africa Awaits (US rep HIgh Mountain Hunts), but there are many excellent South African and Namibian outfitters. For that matter, Kingsview (above) appears to have a number of satisfied clients from this board.

If I were stuck on SA, and you're wanting a big kudu bull, the Limpopo area is very well known to produce them. The Cape has unbelievable hunting, but the kudu are cape kudu and not as big as the southern greater variety found in Limpopo. I'd give Limpopo Big Game Safaries (Bossie is great to visit with, via WhatsApp its free).
However, I am in love with Namibia, particularly Kowas Safaris. You can do a cull/managment hunt for 10 big animals, add a trophy kudu bull and a few more hunting days, and still be in the $6000 range. 11 animals, huge ranches to hunt....lots to love about this deal.

There's no doubt that the best values in hunting these days are in South Africa / Botswana / Namibia.

I just got back from a SA hunt with Bossie at www.lbgsafaris.com and we had great success in a 50+ inch kudu and many other critters Wasn't after warthog, but some some monsters You can get to Africa hunt kudu and warthog plus many more things and stay in your budget We took zebra , wildebeest, and impala in addition to the kudu My total bill including hunting, trophies, airfare and taxidermy for less than you are budgeting All were active, stalk hunts
Stuff my dad said in the deer blind
"I can dive deeper and come up drier" "did you do that?"

Good luck on your search. Too me it part of the fun looking for a hunt, is the research on who to use. I have been on 4 African safaris. Each company is diffrent and offers its own combination of acomadations and hunting. You will have to decide what is important for you. I personally worry more about the hunting and trophy quAlty and really could care less about lodging as long as there is a dry bed and warm shower. But if my wife goes well than the lodging becomes important and maybe even more so than the hunting. Enjoy the search and consider going to Dallas Safari Club convention.
Your 4000 budget for Kudu and warthog is very doable. But, very few people go to Africa and take just a couple of critters.
Tom

X2 Got back in May from a trip with Limcroma took 8 animals. Great place, great people, great accommodations. X3 Also did my latest safari with Limcroma in May. This was my 6th trip to Africa, and my 5th experience hunting with the Limcroma crew. Without a doubt, these are the finest folks that you could ever hunt with. First-class outfit in every possible way. We have hunted over 20 species with them in nearly all of the provinces of RSA, Namibia, & Botswana. I took my first Cape Buffalo with them with a bow this last trip. Feel free to send me a PM for a detailed reference.
