My old man is almost 80 and were from the hills of far upper east Tennessee. To him, if you eat late eve/night thats called supper. if you eat sometime around noon thats dinner.

My wife is always wanting me to take her out to "dinner" at night. What say yall...whats what?

To me supper has always been the evening meal only. Dinner could be either noon or night time meal.

Never heard of a painting called The Lords Last Dinner.

I have supper at the evening meal here at home. When I used to have to work with the "city types" and we went out to eat in the evenings it was called dinner.

Interchangeable to me. Both are evening meals..

But no one eats dinner at noon.

When I was a kid I saw on television shows they were calling the evening meal dinner. I ask Mom about it and she said that is what City Folks call Supper.

We do not have Thanksgiving supper of Christmas supper. That is dinner I guarantee it and there is plenty of food to go around.

I know, confusing right, but that's the what mom said so that's what we did. Why you ask...Sunday and Holiday (Lunch/Dinner) are more formal thus they became Dinner/Supper. Still doing it today...
