Bought my 5 year old boy one of these for Christmas. He's taller than most of his friends the same age, but the gun is too big. I have him holding it like a bazooka right now with the stock on top of his shoulder. Somehow he's managing to still hit cans and such, but I obviously want it to fit like a rifle should. Anybody else had to saw off a couple of inches off the stock? Doesn't seem right...

Daisy Buck, thats what my youngest has and the older 2 have the 760's, which are short by design. I even carved out a stock to convert the 760's to fit the 6 year old, but found the Daisy Buck and it fit.

I cut the stock off my red rider for my daughter. It really didnt seem rite at the time, but it was mine as a kid and I was glad to see her shooting it.

I agree with this notion. My boys and girls got their very own riders with a custom cut down stock via hack saw or band saw. Really now, the most I have is 20 bucks a piece in the guns and it seems like a good idea to make it fit them. I let them burn their names in the stocks as well.

just my 2 pennies...

Go with the Buck for sure. My neighbor had the same problem and I suggested it to him. His boy loves that little thing!

Iv'e got one of the Buck models I bought for my son when he was just a pup. We still get it out and shoot it every once in a while, even though he's 16 years old. It's amazing that we can break that gun out and my daughter (age 7) will want to shoot it. Usually it isn't long before every kid in the neighborhood shows up wanting to shoot it. These things are a good way to promote the sport to the little guys. I think it shoots the same FPS as the Red Ryder too. I also found out that it shoots a lot more accurate with Crossman copper BB's instead of the aluminum ones that Daisy sells.

Buck one more time.
I started my 4 yr old daughter shootin the Buck, It is the shortest one I could find.
Something to be aware of, the drop on the stock of all the bb guns that I looked at were the same as on an adult rifle. I try to teach proper cheek weld and stance. With the daisy and all the rifles I looked at you can't find the right drop for a kid. Only when we went to a 22 was I able to find the right drop and only in the chipmonk or the cricket. Just something I thought I'd pass on, I found it by accident.
