I just got a new lease this year and it has axis on it. The land owner will let us each shoot one, but during deer season only. I've never been around them before so I don't know what to expect. We are seeing some huge ones right now completely hard horned. Will they still have those antlers come November?

Doubtful, but there will be others. Axis are pretty much always breeding and growing antlers. The bucks dont all run pretty much the same schedule like white tails do. Though the peak rut for axis is summer time

Yeah I've heard everyone talking about axis hunting right now. The land owner feeds a huge amount of corn and alfalfa hay year round so maybe we'll see some in November.

If they just rubbed out they'll still be in hard horn during deer season.

There more than likely will be some, just not as high of numbers of bucks with head gear in the fall as the spring/summer.

X2, there be shooters, just may not have as many fully grown out in your winter herd.

This ^^^^^^^^^^ with one addition. Many of them will likely be broken up from this summers rutting/fighting activities!

Ok, thanks for the info guys. One of the ranches next door counted 83 in field the other day and it's all low fence so maybe there will be some around this fall.
