Wow, started hunting with my first 7 mm-08 last fall, and just started reloading with it. What a round! I've long been a fan of the 25-06 and the 270, and still am. But that little 284 bullet flies true and hits hard. My kid killed her first whitetail but with it last fall. Wish I'd found it sooner.

I just finished loading a first round of 162 grain ELD-M. Can't wait to go try them out.

You can use 120 NBT's as well. I've put quite a few whitetails in the freezer with that bullet.

For hunting deer or pigs, give the 120 Gr Barrnes TTSX a try too. Pleasant as punch to shoot and works well.

HG, what rifle are you shooting? What's the barrel twist rate?

You got a great cartridge to work with !!! My daughter loves her little Browning X-Bolt 7-08

Best short action cartridge there is.

1:10, I'd load with 155 gr bullets.

Great cartridge for many tasks, welcome to the club. Guess that is one I got in early on. The 7mm-08 has been impressing me since 1982

1:10 will stabilize it but it's not ideal.

Welcome. Recently laid down the .300 WSM and picked up the 7mm-08. Absolutely love it. Just downed 8 animals in Africa with it from Impala to Kudu and two Gemsbok with one shot. Most dropped in their tracks and the ones that did run none went more than about 75 yards and tracking wasn't an issue.

I'm going to take my 7-08 to Namibia next year. Did you use a TSX/TTSX by any chance?

I have a friend from Alaska that has used his 7mm-08 for every animal he has taken with the exception of grizzly. It's a fantastic round.

Have any of you tried the 162 grain ELD-M with the 7 mm-08? I just loaded up a few using IMR 4064, but I've not gotten to the range yet.

I doubt it'll fly much different than the 162 A-Max. I've shot a whole bunch of those out of the 7-08.

The two go together like peanut butter and jelly.

For me and a few others yes. We both have original lots. I used box and it was close but the moaish targets at lone survivor pointed it out. Thought it might have been my twist but even a fast twist saum was the same. When I get some new ones I'll test them out too though. It could just be a early version though.

I will say 307 is what I ran and trued it out to a mile.
