Having issues crimping some 28ga new unfired fiochi hulls. See pic

I've adjusted everything twice and I keep crushing the crimps. If I use once fired AA's I have no problems. I've never had any issues crimping various manufacturers hulls on 20's and 12's. But, this 28 is a real pain. Thanks for any help.

I'm really more of a novice when it comes to shotshells, but I've loaded a few (and had an issue or two, too). One thing I know is that the crimp starter can be for a six-sided crimp or an eight-sided crimp. If a hull begins life with a six-fold crimp, it won't ever crimp right with an eight-fold crimp starter. That MIGHT be what's going on, but I could be out in left field. Or maybe even the wrong ballpark. Whaddya expect for free though, right?

Aw heck. Now I see that you've SAID these are unfired hulls. In that case, I flat do not know. Sorry for the blather.

It's been a long time since I loaded shotgun. Just guessing. 2 3/4" vs 3" setup? Wrong wad column height? Wrong wad pressure? I presume you are using published load data and not something you used for a different hull...?

Appears the case isn't full enough, I tend to agree with papa on this one.

I also think Papa nailed it. Wrong column height, nor enough in that hull. Why that is the case his other questions/suggestions might well lead to the answer

looks like a couple of things going on

wad pressure, and have the hulls been skived?

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting.......holy kaka.....What a Ride!

I believe the Fiochi are streight walled hulls and need a different wad than a tapered hull. Also a different size primer.

I wouldn't mess with the Fiocchi hulls, Win AA is the way to go in 28 ga. Buy new AAs and get a $2/box rebate till Sept 4th.
