April is Autism Awareness Month. Studies say now that one in 68 kids are affected. That is almost 2% of EVERY KID in this country and, still, nobody has any idea what causes it!!
This guy is my Colten. He is affected by it. But, to borrow a song lyric, he is Bigger and Badder than John Wayne and Cooler than Steve Earl!!! Get to know one of these kids. You won't be the same!!

Good stuff!!! My 2 1/2 year old daughter has Autism (Aspergers)and she is amazing. I feel blessed that we were able to get this diagnosed early and into the therapy to help her. In just two months she has gone from burying her face into my shirt when the people try to talk to her to saying hi and actually looking at them. These kids are very smart and can do anything they set out to do!!

Run N Shoot... FYI, we are also in the Lewisville ISD. Your daughter can start public school the day she turns three. The state has some very specific and beneficial rules that will help you along and the LISD was very accommodating. If you haven't, you might want to meet with the administration and get her lined up. Colten was diagnosed when he was 2 1/2. A friend told us to check with the district and it was a GREAT thing. They did say some things that were VERY hard to hear. Special Education doesn't mean what it used to. Now it means that if you choose to take it, you have the power to dictate the direction and tools used to teach your child. I would STRONGLY suggest meeting with them.
I'm sorry for the soap box ramble...but this hits home and we had NO IDEA that anything like these programs existed.

I don't know him. He was working the State Fair and took time to say Hi to Colt, so we took a pic. Something caught his attention just as we took the pic. Still, he was kind to my boy and I always appreciate that!!!
