So heres 2 of the 1st 3 ever fresh killed blood tracking experiences. The 1st was a 20 foot straight upwind trail and he aced it. The wind was out of the north so I figured I'd make it harder since he did so well on the easy one.

All constructive criticism is welcome. We can't be great dog trainers unless people are picking up on the things we've missed.

I think that the pup would work better if once you know he is on the blood trail, turn him loose. I think the reason that he kept loosing the track was because he was hitting the end of the leash and he wanted to keep moving. The other option is that you are going to have to run faster so that he is not restrained by the leash. LOL! Good luck, from what I understand, jadgs can make pretty fair blood trailing hogs. I know they are mighty gritty on hogs.......

I use a 30' tracking lead never take dog off, you make the speed of the track slower the better.

I believe you're right. The breeder/trainer I got him from said quit using a lead while training at this age. He said to let him run and be even more vocal than I was in the video. He said he could tell the dog knew what he was doing and that me checking him the few times I did was the wrong tact. Duly noted and I will adjust.

Lane he is going to be a dandy. All you need is to take him hunting.

We do something different every day training wise and hunt about 5 times a week and he's taken to the hunting part like a natural. Obedience is a whole other story, though. That's where the hard work and lots of patience and repetition will come into play.

I have never seen a Jagd that lacked the desire to hunt or grit. Unfortunately, hardheadedness and independence are also qualities that I have seen in most of the little terriers.

This weekend at the lease was pretty weak, hunting-wise. He did catch a rat under one of the trailers while I was unloading Friday afternoon so I didn't get to see any of it. All weekend we never scared up anything and didn't trap any pigs. We got to do some fishing and he carried a perch around and chewed on it a little.



I did have a scary moment Friday night when he got ahold of a dead rat that had been poisoned. He started wobbling and I knew what was up because the same thing happened to my brothers dog several years ago. 3 cc's of hydrogen peroxide down his throat and after wretching up some really nasty stuff that I couldn't identify, he was back to normal after 30 minutes of not feeling too good.
