The wiring for them is a pain in the rear, but the one my parents put out behind their house has ran all season and is still running and hasn't clogged up or anything. I know it will eventually bite the dust, but so far it is serving its purpose. (have had problems with others tearing above where the angled sq tubing goes in the barrel after about 3 yrs of use).

That is pretty much my reaction. Maybe the new ones are better than the ones I come across, but after about a year or two most Moultries I come across have had everything changed out and the only thing left original is the barrel.

If they work for you, that's great. I'd road feed first. JMO

+ 1 on both the remington and Moultree, you can add bulldog and Kenco to that list. If I'm going to put feed into it you can bet it will be an HCR (best on the market)

I am running 3 HCR's right now (soon to be 4) and my dad is running 3 also! Never had a lick of trouble out of any of them and some of them are almost 10 years old!

Highly reccomend them!!!!

I have 3 that run every day and are awesome.
Easy to fill, no problem.
I hooked up the american hunter 6 volt solar charger to it and the batteries stay 100%
They throw - HARD.......
I was shocked what I would get out of it in RPMs and distance it threw the corn.

IMO moultrie motors suck. I have had much better luck with the Remington Motor with a digital timer. Just my 2 cents though.

I had one for 1 season and when season was over I took it back to academy and got my money back. I had way too many issues with the digital timer and motor to ever venture that road again.

The metal Remmingtons I have worked with are okay. The directional throwers even work semi decently, but their weakness is the plastic paddle wheel which tends to chip. The new plastic barrel jobs so far have not impressed me one little bit. The metal Remingtons usually have an outstanding solar panel.

Yes, Kenco goes on the it's good for about a half a season list.

The other brand of feeders that I encounter frequently and have very little use for is a Spincast. Again, some people get lucky with them, but for the most part from my experiences with them they aren't very reliable.

HCR's are okay plus, the only real weakness they have is that in a wet year you have to be careful where it is sitting. If one leg sinks the feeder will tilt and the band that the legs attach to will bend. If that happens it is a beatch to get straightend out right.

Besides Bossbuck though, the best feeders out there are the Lehman H feeders.

If I'm thinking the same Bulldog as mentioned above, they used to be good feeders. The company is in Kerrville, I think, and they made good feeders and had a superb timer. I just cannot remember the name right now to save my life. I haven't seen a Bulldog feeder in probably 5 or 6 years.

There are other feeders out that are pretty good, like Lamco, but they are in such a high dollar category that I don't really consider their feeders.

If I just bad mouthed your feeder, I am sorry, but those are my experiences with the ones I encounter.

I have had really good experiences with All-seasons, and I've build my own using the 4ever-last units.

The OLD Kenco Lifetime Timers, before they were bought by Flambeau, are worth their weight in gold. I have two that have been running 13 yeasrs without a lick of problem. I do plan to change the motor out on one of them next trip to the lease.

I forgot about All Seasons, yes they are alright and their new line of big green welded feeders is actually pretty good stuff as far as spin feeders go.

When you get to checking there are many feeders that use industry common parts. Many of the control boxes are the same, timers are the same, they just have a different name on them, and many of the motors are the same. If you get a bad feeder you can usually rehabilitate them with "off the shelf" stuff.

My first feeder was a dawn and dusk Moultrie. Bought it in 1994. It is still running. ONly problem with the dawn and dusk is dusk actually means almost too dark to see. I don't use it anymore, but my cousin has it running behind his house in London.

deerfeeder - are talking about BA Feeders in Ingram? We used to buy them on the ranch I worked on, never had a problem with them, but that was years ago.

Yes! That's the one. Sorry senility is starting to set in. They used to be top notch feeders as far as the timers and all went. I think they were making the Remington and Winchester timers for awhile too, some of the first digital ones. I know I've seen their timers with the Remington name.

Had probs with Moultrie over the years as well. Started using the American Hunter feeders with no problems. We use the rectangular metal timers with the built in solar panels, the round plastic ones are POS's in my opinion. Have used 4 of them for the past 4-5 years and only changed batteries twice i believe and spinner plates 3 times, from coons hanging on them and bending the plate beyond fixability.

I am running 3 of the remington feeders for the last 3 years, and have not changed one part on any of them. Are they as good as the more expensive one's? No, but for 99 dollars mine are still running strong. When I have some extra money I will buy a nicer one, but until then the remingtons are doing a fine job.

Just my opinion, but I have had this Moultie feeder for a season and I have had no problems what so every. The 6 volt battery is still the original since last September and the feeder spins twice a day, morning and night. Would I recommend these inexpensive Moultrie Feeders, You bet. But again, Just my opinion.

Last year I used a sharpie to put a black dot in the middle of the photoeye of my moultrie dusk/dawner and the feeder started going off 15 minutes later/earlier.
