Last night me and a buddy had a group of hog come to corn. But when we flipped on the light the pigs spooked. This normal r did I do something wrong?

Might be a case of too much too soon. My light has two settings..low and high. If I click on low and keep it over their heads,very gradually bringing it down, they will often stay ( not always). If they are farther than about 75 yards I can often do the same on high ( not always..) While at 100 yards plus Ive had them scatter on high, or go about their business not seeming to notice. Seems to be no pat answer, at least for me and my light!

More folks are hunting them at night so they are getting more and more wary.
If they have been hunted with a green light before, they do become aware of them - just like any recognizable threat.
Heck, some of them have started picking up 850NM IR illuminators as a threat from hunting with NV.

I eventually switched to NV but spend many, many cold, wet nights using a green LED torch.
There were a couple of things that upped my chances.
First, I started using a cheap NV monocular hand scanner for spotting and only use the lights when ready to make the shot.
Second, like nyalubwe said above, turn on the light with it pointing up as much as you can without lighting up the trees and branches above you.
Then SLOWLY bring it down on the pigs and be prepared to take the shot immediately.
As you are bringing it down on them, try to pick out your intended target just as they come into view at bottom of scope so you can take the shot quickly.

I've never spooked them with red. Green seems to spook them every time.

I was watching a sounder with my NV scope, waiting for my wife to get ready and turn on her green scope light
As soon as she turned it on, they all took off
All I could do was watch them run back into the creek they came out of
Her scope light is now a flashlight, bought her an NV scope so that does not happen again

I've had success with both red and green... my buddies too. What was already said is the best "trick" I've found... start high and bring it down onto them. I seem to have better luck with red with my crossbow. I think it is less intense or something... even though its the same light with two different LEDs.

What distance are you shooting from? At 80 to 120 yards (our typical setups) they almost never spook. Closer than that its iffy.

We use our lights from the same feeders routinely so its gotta be the same pigs some times... although I do think they get "smart".
