Put together a video from a two day hunt west of Abilene. Big ranch with varied terrain. 30+ coveys a day, scenting conditions ok in morning then so-so to bad after that. 10 month old is the solid white with liver head dog, she is starting to get dialed in. Drone video is up front if you dont want to all the covey rises, you will see a clip where I nearly shot it when birds flew up into sun right at the drone. Threw in a little bit of video from a hunt in late Jan, the guy in camo was the land owners son that we invited to hunt with us for about an hour; I didnt have an extra orange hat or vest for him or time to coach him on get your gun up when approaching dogs but I wanted to get that clip of Sadie showing out and cat walking over a creek in there. Youtube has changed how they launch videos in the player, so if it doesnt show "HD" over the little gear icon, click on the gear icon and change it to 1080p HD, that will enable you to see the birds taking off etc. Click it into full screen mode as well https://youtu.be/s5o69Iwomtc

Thanks a bunch for sharing. I told my friends about your last drone video this morning.

That was absolutely awesome! If you shot lefthanded it would have been perfect. Got to go quail hunting and never left home. Thank you! Here I will post it for you. Thanks again

Thats pretty slick. How do you operate the drone, watch the dogs, and shoot all at the same time

Yea - I sent the link to a buddy who couldn't come and he said: hunting working the dogs taking photos telling shooters were to go running a gopro And now a drone? What's next?
Truth is the drone kicks you into gadget overload. I rigged up a transmitter carrier out of my kids old soft sided lunch pail, cutting a square hole in the side of it and then a deal hanging off it the is kind of like the duck carrier to carry it when it runs out of battery. Problem is I accidentily hit the "return to home" button where it goes back and lands where it took off from. We shoot, find a couple of dead birds, look around and the sucker is gone. What worse its not even mine, its my kid's that I am borrowing that's down at A&M so we had a frantic search to find it. If you are considering one, I would definitely get one with a Follow Me function that will follow either your phone or your transmitter (phone would be better). Then they will GPS hold themselves at an altitude and follow behind you filming. If you have a thousand dollars burning a hole in your pocket, the DJI Mavik pro that can fold up small but still has 30 mins of batt life, can follow you, but has a radar built in to avoid trees when its following you, and can lock onto a dog and follow them and you can set it to 360 film around the dog would be the ticket. The drone I was playing with doesnt have a gimbal, it has a fixed camera, but one like the DJI can compensate for strong wind and you can shoot straight down if you wanted to (although late season coveys dont like the whine of the drone close I have decided)
That drone picture of all the rigs (the land owner came out with us one morning and we hunted some Blues pastures and he basically blocked on one end with his mule); sent it to a buddy that couldnt make the trip and he responded back "when is the deployment for Iraq leaving..." Does look like an armada

Chet - I was worried about the blues messing Belle up a little bit, but it actually helped her on trailing birds. Before she basically was rolling with two gears, super cautious, and stay 20 yards behind us as we are walking up but then when she broke she would come in like a freight train. By end of this hunt, she was easing behind the running blues but staying with them pretty good.
Wacm - my personal shooting the second day got worse beyond my normal miss first shot connect on second. Those early afternoon video clips show me shooting my backup semi auto 20ga for the first time in about 10 years

Very nice. Where are the dogs out of? The young female seems like a natural.
In dog beers, I've only had one.

These are great times for bird hunters and our long tailed companions.
