Howdy all,
Recently, I have been spending a lot of time turning my family ranch from strictly agriculture to ag/hunting property. With that said, while the deer population is good, I need some help getting the ponds to hold and attract ducks.

What are some things I can do to these ponds to attract ducks? Plant around the ponds? Build duck houses? Any and all advice appreciated!

Size and depth of pond(s)? Any vegetation in the shallows?

The main pond is probably between 30-40 feet in depth, not very wide across, maybe 30-45 yards. There is a drainage that runs into it from uphill. Limited vegetation at the mouth where the drainage enters the pond.

It will hold a few buffleheads and I've seen woodies and mallards, they just are very small numbers (maybe of pair of each, at best). That was my first thought when they stayed towards the mouth of the drainage where it is shallow...
Would introducing more fish to the pond be beneficial? Like minnows or something like that?

Fish will bring merganzers, other ducks too, but the merganzers love a pond with lots of small fish. You either need to back fill some of it to make part of it shallow, or open up the mouth to create a large shallow area. If your gonna open it up, plant millet or somethin a couple weeks before you break the wall

What's below the pond you mentioned? If you have 30' of water that is a lot of storage capacity. Maybe look at making a wet land area below the dam and using all the water to flood it for duck season.
