Going to a ranch this weekend and haven't decided on what animal to shoot. If I'm able to shoot an axis I would like to, however I only have a 65qt cooler and was wondering if I could throw the legs and straps in there until I get back to my processor.
Thanks

If you debone it all, possibly but not likely. Even then you wouldn't have much room for ice. Go buy a 120 quart cooler/

You need to get started on your cooler collection.

For a doe yes, buck unlikely. Get a bigger cooler and remove any doubt.

I have a Rtic 65 and Yeti 75. I've put tons of exotics and 250lb+ whitetails quartered up in mine with no issues. Have also put 100's of animals in them for clients.

I have a 50qt I take with me to Texas every trip. I have brought home 4 different axis bucks over the years. The secret is to bone out the buck. If you do that you will have no issue. Good luck on your hunt.

If you cut out the pelvis at the hip joint and cut the back leg off at the hock it will amaze you how much you can fit in an ice chest. I bet it would fit in a 65.

In a 65qt cooler you should be able to fit an axis buck no problem and definitely a doe. but having said that, you would tight on space for ice. So I would say to de-bone it to leave no doubt and have more space for ice.

Pick up an extra cooler to two. Doesn't have to be a Yeti. Walmart, Academy and so forth. Even a low end cooler with ice will hold long enough for your trip back.

Yes it will fit. I can put one in a 60 but I keep it the walk in cooler after cleaning so it only needs a little ice for the 5 hour ride home.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.
