How do you dispatch your animals without damaging the hide?

I have not trapped in a long while, but never had a fur buyer complain about a .22 hole in the head. Taxidermist wanted them clubbed. I never could bring myself to choke them or drown them .... but beating them to death with a stick was ok!?!?! confused

Choker pole works great (4' pipe with a cable or wire ran through it with a handle on cable) slip it around their neck and pull this handle to tighten.

Back when I trapped in the 70's I used a night stick with some lead in the end of it. One good hard hit and it was lights out. Carried a 22 in case a skunk was in a trap. NO I never skinned one of those, nor do I plan on it.

I've always used a .22 in the head. No complaints. Really doesn't matter if it is not skinned carefully. More holes develop with sloppy skinning.
