Any of you have any magic practices you use other than the height? Cows can be a problem too I was thinking about making one with a much smaller spout so only a deer could get their mouth in there vs the moo moos.

Also b/c I'm a huge dummy. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong to not get email notifications when I get a reply? Looks like I should be good to go on the settings, but darn if I'm striking out. Thanks

I built a couple of gravity feeders this year and used cattle panels in a circle around the feeder. I cut down 4 places to about 36-40" so the deer could jump in but keep the cows and pigs out. So far both sites have had no problems except the piglets sneaking in through the wire. I used a 4" pvc tee to make the feed openings but had to baffle it to keep the corn form spilling out.

Like said above, build a feed pen for the deer. If built right/big enough the deer will jump in and out and typically the cows wont try. Its pretty much your only option

I grease the polls and have a hole dug out under the feeder to make it harder for coons to reach... also there is an adjustment band on mine to let feed come out more or less... I have it set were the deer have to stick their nose in and lick it out... before when it would just fill the hopper up pigs figured out they could rub against the legs and shake the feed out... now they only can clean up what the deer spill... I wouldn't dare have a protein feeder out with livestock and not pen it off.. they will destroy the feeder

I put together a bunck of PVC gravity feeders a few years ago. Instead of fastening them to a tree, I installed eye-bolts to the top cap and hang them fee-singing from a limb. Deer can get their muzzles into the bottom to eat, but pigs have to get up on their hind legs to try and the feeders won't hold still for them to eat. Seems to work OK. Wouldn't help with the cows, though.
