Got an itch for a new rifle but can't decide what to get. I currently have a 6.5 creed and 30-06 in bolt guns, a 35 Rem and 30-30 in lever guns, 22s and a 17hmr. I'm leaning towards a tikka varmint in 22250 or a tikka CTR in 308. What says the THF?

The 22-250 definitely fills a gap in your quiver.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Rather than focusing on different calibers, I've built my collection around different brands in a smaller range of calibers. This way, I can use the same ammo in different models.

Like stated above...you're missing a .22-caliber hotrod. I think you need want a .22-250 or a .220 Swift!

Another vote for 22-250. Convert my target rifle from a 22-250 to 308. While I don't regret it overall because the 308 is vastly superior I the wind at range for a newbie like me. But I still really miss having a 22-250.

I'd say a .223 or 22-250 bolt gun

Why not go with the 220 Swift? I've thought about it but as of now I don't handload so I don't think I'd get the most out of it. The 22-250 definitely fills a gap in your quiver. This is what I'm thinking too. The only reason I lean 308 is because there is ammo EVERYWHERE.

The 22-250 definitely fills the gap or a 6mm CM running lighter bullets. P_102

I've never understood why people purchase odd-ball calibers (yes, I'm classifying the .22-250 as one). Ammo is harder to find, more expensive, less options & isn't any more impressive than more mainstream cal.'s. Having said that, an AR in 6.8 is nice to have!

my favorite is the 338 Federal. 160 TTSXs at 3000 fps from a Ruger 77. 185 TTSXx at 2750 from a Tikka. DRT on anything it hits.

Fast twist .223
Cheap to shoot, plenty of brass available, super efficient cartridge, a joy to shoot, is a great trainer rifle for all ages.

243. Everyone should have one or three. Why would you need three, you can only wound one deer at a time....
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
