I'm pretty excited. My last Brittany (back in 1995) was just a pup from a friend's dogs, that I fumbled through trying to train. Since then, all my dogs have been adult hand-me-downs or rescues. This is the first time in my life I've been in the position to afford a well-bred pup and the first time I have been able to get professional help with the training. This will also be the first time my wife has had a puppy in the house. (I've done my best to warn her of the 'challenges'. ) All my hunting buddies run Vizsla or GSPs, so this guy will be a quite change. We put a deposit down with Jimmie Summerlin a little while back and the puppies were born right before Christmas. An white & orange male from this litter. Rye will probably be his name. Sire: Buster Dam: Spice I'm still talking with friends and hunting buddies (as well as the posts from a recent thread here) about trainers... we need to figure that out by July, so we can get him to a week of puppy school at 6 months. My wife is really excited about going out in a couple of weeks to pick out the pup. I guess he will be coming home around the middle of February. I hope my work schedule cooperates, I'd hate to bring him home, then take off for a week business trip...that just would right for the pup or my wife
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Great looking pups. Congratulations.

I enjoy my Britt! Got her as a 6 week old pup, she was the easiest as far as the pups I've had, which were labs, gsp, and the latest English pointer. I've also had the hand me downs and guide dog retiree pointers, the pups do take a lot of time and energy. If your looking for a trainer, I'd recommend Ronnie Smith in Big Cabin, OK. You need to contact them now to get on the list for fall training. It'll be a 3 month session, august- October

Nothing better that a good Brittany. Fun times to come. Congrats!
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

My dad had a couple and I had one shortly after I got out of college. Definitely intelligent and they work hard to please. After a little of the spring tension wears down (about 2 years old) they are happy curled up by the recliner when hunting season is over.

Thank you! The breeder was Susan Wieboldt out of Harlingen, and she was really good to work with!

Thank you! The breeder was Susan Wieboldt out of Harlingen, and she was really good to work with! I also have a 4 month old Brit. Had a hard time trying to find a breeder in Texas that I felt good about. Was not familiar with Susan Wieboldt. The couple of breeders I found that I liked were either out of dogs or down to one. Not really good odds of getting a dog worthy of the money spent. This pup came from Georgia. She's what I was looking for.

She is a good looking pup! Will you be training her or having her trained? I'm going train her. I just haven't decided to what extent she is going to be trained. For retrieving I am going to make every effort to train her naturally. Problem is Brits lose interest after one retrieve or less. Likely, she will need to be force fetched....but I hope not. Also, don't have birds anymore so that slows things down. What speeds things up is hunting her with a dog that has a clue what is going on. I'll be strong on no and whoa and see how it goes. She points rock solid and is not gun shy whatsoever so she is off to a good start.

Great looking pup. I'm jealous. You guys will be three months ahead of me on training for next season. Also three months ahead on the chewing, getting into everything, chainsaw, LOL. Be sure to post the picture of the pup that you get in this tread. Also post a four month picture. Good luck with Rye.

Especially the getting into everything!! That's great progress with her! I'm going to check out a trainer in next couple weeks that does both retrieving and upland. He has ponds on his property and has worked with many Brits before. If all checks out, I will be taking him in March. Good luck with Rye! Make sure to post pics!

Save yourself some change. It's not hard to train a bird dog. It seems intimidating but all it takes is a little time every day on your part. Spend your money on a good bird lease and you'll wind up with the result you want.
