My lease is 6 miles west of Priddy (which is right around the area the OP was at). I see them pretty much every time I'm out there.

We used to stop at Hohertz store and get "old Lady Hohertz" to fix us a ham sandwich. We really miss her, she was the real deal. She passed a few years ago. Her ranch is the one on 16 just north of town with the 3 crosses up on the top of the hill.

Been out there 8 years. I didn't realized she passed away. Used to go there all the time and then it was closed. She was funny, the first I time I went there she didn't care to serve me. She thought I was just passing through. The next time I went and we starting to BS and she ended up hooking me up with her special stash of bacon and summer sausage (I was picking up the essentials). Now I go to the gas station and it serves some pretty good food.
I was upset the beverage bank closed down too, but the toddy house isn't too far and good people.

We see Cara Caras just north of Pflugerville, near Austin, fairly often. That's not too far from FmRmLmBm's location in Thrall.

I was upset the beverage bank closed down too, but the toddy house isn't too far and good people. She was always like that. Started off cranky and then did you right. We enjoyed that about her. I didn't know the new place had food. We'll have to try that out. Ya'll see some big deer around there?

That may be the same pair I saw this past weekend. Our lease is on 573, which is west of Hwy 16. They seem to migrate to the area each year and don't see them during the spring or summer.

Got two that hang around my place in Mason. They are on top of anything dead within an hour or two. We have them in Mason/Menard counties. I do not recall them until about ten years ago, they may have been around but I wasn't aware of what they were. Near Laredo I shot a deer and was going to give him the customary 30 minutes wait before I went to get him. The cara caras were on him less than 5 minutes. I had to go shoo them away. The next day I was camoed out in some brush watching a sendero when two of them landed on the ground at my feet. They walked around for 15 minutes, getting within 2-3 feet of me and watching me closely. I think they were wondering if I was edible. Aggressive birds.

They are all over the place here in Gonzales. I can't stand them. Nothing but a nuisance predator for everything from pets to young calves to fawns for our whitetail, blackbuck, and axis. They are bad news.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

Had about 50-60 on our lease in san saba county this year. We fed them well with all the hog and deer carcasses we disposed of in our "bone yard"!

Down here, they will harass pelicans headed to the nest with fish in their pouch until they drop the fish. FYI, the United States Migratory Bird Treaty Act protects Crested Caracaras as an endangered species. Whether they are actually endangered or not is debatable, but I don't think a federal judge will care. Just sayin...

I like to watch them. Don't get to see them often. They got the eyes out of my first nilgai before I could get there, even tho it was only an 80 yd walk. That's OK, I got him some glass ones.
