im not understanding the 1.5 born late scenario either, that would make him 1 year old, damn near a fawn. seems people look at horns to judge age and not body size.
body size is everything on a buck to judge age, up until about 5.5 after that i have a hard time telling if hes 5.5 or 6.5 or 7.5, i just know hes damn sure mature.
a 1.5 is a yearling, that deer is in no way a yearling

This is kinda a silly statement without knowing the age of the doe.

and every herd is not the same... not sure of why a 1.5yr old buck would be smaller than a 1.5yr old doe

I'd love to see the jawbones of all these mythical 2.5 year old spikes.

2.5 old spikes might not be mythical, but they are rare

BS a healthy buck that is 2.5 will be bigger than 99% of mature does. I look at hundreds of both every year.
As far a the deer in the picture it is 1.5 and not a very big deer. Trying to compare it to a doe in a separate photo is impossible.
