Newb question I know. Bear with me please cause I want to learn everything I can. What do y'all do with the gut pile/carcass after field butchering your hog? Just leave it for scavengers? Do the other hogs come back and clean em up? Do you take em off a little ways and bury em? Part of me thinks I could just leave what's left right where it lies, and come back later and shoot the other critters that come clean it up.

Believe me, if you have coyotes, they will clean up the mess.
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf

Last boar I shot disappeared completely in less than 3 days. Vultures, coyotes, raccoons and even other pigs all help with the cleanup.

We have a designated "bone yard" where I hunt for all the guts and such. If you have coyotes you can set them out where you have a good position and hunt over them.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I put the mulefoot hog I shot 6 days ago into the bone yard and there is still a lot left, mostly hide and bone, but he is far from gone. Sometimes they disappear quick. Sometimes not.

Take the pile and drop it off away from where you are hunting

This time of year we see carcasses set there for weeks because our buzzards have gone south. Spring through fall a carcass wont last a day. I do recommend a common place to dump carcasses. Our land owner saw where we were dumping pig carcasses all over and he freaked out. He thought we were driving the fields and and shooting hogs at night, endangering cows. We had to find a common spot for mother nature to dispose of them.

I swear the buzzards and coyotes around our lease have checked out. The bone pile has hardly moved since opening weekend.

Our lease us divided into areas..leave all gutpiles in your area..you can bring to camp to clean..but must haul them off..gut piles make excellent bait piles..shot my biggest bobcat setting on top of a gutpiles..ask your fellow leasees what they do with them..as a newbie..I would suggest asking and listening lots of questions..I'm 61 and hunted all my life..but I'll admit..I'm still learning..one guy on our lease is young enough to be my son..but I'll admit..I learn stuff from him every time were at the lease together..

I dump the remains in an area of the lease with no stands. It's amazing how quick it disappears. One evening I shot a very large sow pig right at dark. I was alone and it was too big for me to load into the truck. I tied a rope to it and moved it about 300 from the feeder. Cut the hams and back straps out and let the rest. The next morning after the hunt I checked the carcas and it was gone.....I mean not a trace other than some beat down vegetation, a little bit of fur and stained soil. It amazed me just how quick that pig

A lot depends for us.
If it is just guts you are leaving there, sometimes they will be gone in a matter of hours. If it is a whole 200 lb hog sometimes there will be a dried up carcass a month later still there.
It's hell eatin em live
