I'm going to install those pvc raccoon guards on a gravity feeder's poles. The kind that you use a bolt to hold it up from the bottom and they spin off when they try to climb up.

I need to know what diameter and length to use. And how high to set them off the ground. Anyone know?

I just use 4" PVC, 5 ft long, no bolt, left loose around legs touching ground. No problem with coons or squirrels.

4"pvc and I cut the standard 10' pipe into 3 equal pieces. Bolt with small chain with the other end attached any convenient way to the lower part/leg sockets of the actual feeder. I put them on all 12 of our feeders this year and, along with varmint cages, have virtually eliminated any feeder problems. (Except for human error and someone wanting to fiddle with the program. realmad)

'Course, there are some on here that are obsessed about preaching that they don't work. NOTHING works 100% of the time when you combine a mechanical contraption and a hungry coon. The goal is to slow down "the bleeding".

I just used 3" white PVC 5 foot sections over the legs, no peg or chain. Went from big problem to no problem from that.

Coons were going up the 4" pvc like it was installed for them until I secured it at the top as described by Creekrunner above. Apparently the twisting that occurs when they try to climb it causes them to slip/fall off.

This is how I stopped the coons. Pipe is hung on with a spring so it goes up and down. Also has plenty of wobble. "0"

Isn't the best way to save face to keep the lower part shut?

I like that nehntr. I have one I made out of 6" pvc pipe that I'm going to set on a 8' T-post.
