Oh man that is brutal.
I've seen bullets go through necks and deer just run off. More than once.
I think a head shot is mainly for the shooter. Like going for a windmill dunk when a layup is worth 2 points.
Hit them in the engine and leave no doubt.

If that's a head shot on the doe, small caliber at that..I've seen them shot there before with a .30-.06 and there is no upper jaw left after. Not certain that isn't something else, pretty clean wound.

Someone will be along shortly to tell us the head and neck shot is far superior to a chest/vital shot. You left off where they've shot hundreds and NEVER missed. With a .223. I know a guy that NEVER missed but he used a 243. I know he sure did a lot of shooting but rarely ever brought anything into camp. He was a head/neck shot guy. Guess misses only count when you admit to missing.
