I've recently been gifted a lot of Cabelas gc's and I was thinking about buying a 6.5.
Heard nothing but great things about this round and I must admit, I don't know much about it.
I am prolly going to get the Ruger American Predator. I have a friend who has one with some Ziess sitting on top of it and it is insane accurate.

Anyone have a Ruger or a 6.5 that can give me the pros or cons(if there are any)?
What is the recoil like? Would it be ok for a kid to shoot as well?

I will mainly use the gun for deer and/or yotes.

I have a 260, which is about the same cartridge. Very little recoil with 100 gr bullets. Recoil with 120's is a bit more, but still not much. Just use the 100 gr bullets for the kids to use and they won't complain.

i have heard about the .264 bullet for years, high bc and high sd . its been said to be a deep penetrating bullet, i used a .243 for many many years messed around with a 270 and 708 both gone. i just recently went with the creed. ruger predator to be exact. glad i did, was on bulls eye on my second shot from bore sight, it shoots great, i wanted a dedicated hunting rig and maybe something i didnt need to reload for and this fits the bill, it shoots great with factory ammo, killed 2 big boars and doe so far with it, all 3 drt with body shots. recoil would be a bit over a 243 and under a 308 so it would be great for a kid. its like using a 243 but with the killing power of a 270 or 308.

My Ruger Hawkeye Predator is my go-to rifle. The Creedmoor is insanely accurate. I shoot 130 Accubonds and 140 Bergers. Recoil is very similar to a 243.

Would you say that the 6.5 Creed is as accurate as a 22-250? I've never handled the Creed.

LOL .... that's not a good question. ANY cartridge can be accurate. I don't own a '250 any more, but the one I had was awesome. My Creedmoor shoots cloverleafs at 200 yards. But so does my son's 7mm-08. I do believe that "long for caliber" bullets aid dramatically in any gun. That's where the Creedmoor shines. The BC on the 140 Berger VLD is .600 and that's advantageous at longer distances.

Shot one a little in there precision rifle, shot very well...

From an efficiency stand point most 6.5 CM ammo has very little speed variation per box. So as a cartridge I'd say it more prone to be accurate. Very few calibers have I been able to run multiple bullet weights and makes and still print MOA or better.

This is my 6.5 Creedmoor. As has been stated it's very,very accurate with low recoil and it shoot tights groups even with factory ammo. Good luck with your choice.

Now, I am a Savage guy and I only own Savage rifles so the Savage Axis as accurate? May spring a little coin and get a Savage 16/116.

I don't own an Axis. I have several 110 models, a few 11 and a 12 and I love everyone of them.

I have both, well one 22-250 and two CM's .

I actually started of with it being for my wife once she shot out a 243 barrel. Came up with Creedmoor. I grab her gun a lot to the point I had to get my own.

My 243 is still my go-to day rifle for deer & pigs, hard to get away from it but I may pick up 6.5 CM one day....

My 243 is my go to as well. It was my 16th birthday present from my folks. 18 years later, I shoot it more than anything else and I own a lot of other calibers. Love me some 243 but I really love guns and owning as many as I can get my hands on!!!

Man I know the feeling. I bought both of my teenagers 243's and they do good with them. My old Savage 110 is ugly and ain't worth much, but bought it used with my Dad when I was a teenager so holds a lot of sentimental value to me. I'm almost 40 and still reach for it first. Lord knows how many pigs and deer I've killed with it. Anyway

Just picked up my Tikka T3X CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor on Saturday. This one replaced a T3 Lite in .308. Love the 6.5 Creedmoor round and wanted one in a 20" barrel. This will take over hunting duties from my old tikka.

My vote goes for tikka and glass.

I just took the plunge myself this weekend - haven't had a chance to shoot it yet though. Cabelas has the Savage Axis II XP package on sell right now. I got the wood stock 6.5 Creedmore for $409. Minus a $25 coupon I had, $50 in Cabelas bucks and a $50 factory rebate my final cost will be like $280. It came with a Weaver 3x9 Kaspa scope which I replaced with a Vortex Crossfire II 3x9x50. I don't reload and I know one should try various factory loads to see what the gun likes best. However, Midway is running a sale right now on the Hornady American Whitetail 129gr Interlocks for $17.99 a box. That's a good deal on what should be a good bullet/load so I have some of that on the way.

No one must have told him that Hawkeye's aren't accurate.

Most aren't. Mine is. Did a bit of work to it, though. Magazine well was binding in the action and the action screws were in need of proper tightening. Barrel was touching a tiny bit in one spot also. Hawkeye actions are fine but the fitting usually isn't perfect.




That's a great rifle Earl. I'm sure you'll be pleased with it.

That's pretty serious considering the 308's popularity over the years.

I can only speak to the caliber and will say that both my 6.5CMs are incredibly accurate. The caliber is inherently accurate and it's a lot of fun to shoot. As I've stated before I have a bad neck so I stay away from the larger calibers nowadays but I can shoot my CMs all day long!

I love my 6.5 Savage. I just bought a custom built 6.5 off a bighorn Lt3 action.

I agree with you on Ruger. I have 4 model 77s and they all needed bedding and trigger work. My 6.5x55 had the pleasure of an 8.5 lb trigger. They all shoot well with a little work.
