Great read. I was actually getting antsy. lol
I wouldn't have passed that buck either but I've never hunted mule deer. That's a big animal either way.
What gun and caliber? Remington 7400 in 30-06. That gun has killed more animals than all my guns combined. I have the same gun in a bdl (it's an adl) and it is so inaccurate I refuse to shoot it at an animal. Thanks everyone!!

First and foremost, that's awesome. Congrats on a great deer. Thanks for the write-up.
Secondly, didn't this exact thing happen last year with a similar deer but a different shooter? Wasn't there another guy that was new to the lease and had just a few days to hunt, rode around with STX, and shot a real nice buck that STX had passed. Where do I sign up to be the guy that STX puts on a big mature mulie next year? I'm in!
Again, congrats on a great deer. I'm headed to West Texas with my BIL and FIL in a few weeks to chase those things for the first time. Can't wait.

Follow him around and pick up the pieces he leaves behind...all about strategy  I think this was the 4th time in the last 5 years he has done it. When he came to pick me up after I killed it, first thing I said was "I really appreciate you passing him on that first day" Stx truly just loves the hunt, and he is pretty damn good at it. Good luck on your hunt, I am sure you will enjoy it
